More than half of the bill of rights have been either rendered ineffective or outright negated in various acts (patriot act, NDAA).

Where was your outrage at the patriot act?
Where is your outrage at the NDAA?

Where is your outrage that the first amendment has been repeatedly violated since the 19th century? Why can't I say the word "bomb" in an airport? Why are the "tasteless" police telling me what can and cannot be covered under the first amendment?

I see the 2nd amendment the same way-
Why can't I own nuclear "arms"?

It's all about balance, right? The founders had no way of knowing we would invent bombs capable of killing millions in seconds no more than they could possibly have known we would have guns capable of mowing down crowds in seconds.

Balance.

No law shall abridge my 2nd amendment. The constitution and the bill of rights belong to the people, not those who are temporary help elected to protect our (Citizens) rights.

Play poker? A choked down 20ga pump shotgun triumphs a guy kicking in my door with an AR. What would you prefer if someone broke into your house? A Glock or a shotgun?

If you are honestly THAT paranoid of 'home invasion', might I suggest two well-trained rotweilers? They are more likely than a smith & wesson sign on your lawn to divert criminals away, they are safer for your family, and ultimately safer to mine, as you can't go to a shopping mall and mow down dozens in seconds with a pair of dogs.

(edit) and let's add in the fact that even if your 'home defense' gun was within arms reach, you probably would not have the time to access or fire it before being gunned down anyways. Notice that the ONLY people who seem to be prepared for that kind of situation are very hardened criminals who expect the cops to break down the door at any moment, and even then do they rarely survive, much less succeed in avoiding capture.

And so you believe that since some of our rights have been illegally taken by temporary politicians that the rest shall also be taken? Get your head out of your ass. They won't stop with guns, the won't stop when they say your personal transportation is illegal because it isn't an hybrid . They won't stop when they monitor your energy usage to heat and cool your home and tell you that you are too warm or too cool. They already tell you what kind of light bulbs to use, how big your drink can be, what your kids can eat at school, and they want your to follow the same rules at home, they are trying to control what you watch, what you buy, and everything else that you have the freedom to do. They will keep it up until you are a slave to them in every area of your life.

How stupid are you that you can not see what is happening in front of your eyes? And you argue that more rights from law abiding citizens should be taken from them? Your thinky thing is severely out of whack.

Do Rotwilers wear bullet proof vests? I live in a M13 neighborhood. Google that you moron. People like you give retards a bad name. I am not concerned with the bad guys. I am afraid of the government that you support and the tyranny that it thrives on.

And I for one applaud your freedom to do that.

Kramer,

Want to stop gun violence? Then have all the criminals register their weapons instead of taking away the rights of the good guys.

the name calling could be chalked up to envy or jealousy too.. when a person lashes out there is generally some deep emotioal disorder residing within them.. my 2 cents..

Mr. Kramer

"Free State..." meant something totally different in those days. Even as recently as the 70s we always spoke of 'these United States.'

The founders most emphatically did NOT worship the State as we have come to know and dread it. The 2nd was codifying what men already new - that we have a God given right to self defense.

the militia part was based on the premise that every man jack was a member of the state militia and ready to defend his state. Some states even had laws requiring you to own military weapons.

I've studied history many years and the most important thing I've learned is that it is all a moment in time. CS Lewis wrote that if you want to undertand the 'fathers of the church,' read what THEY wrote - not what someobody else wrote about what they wrote.

To understand the founders - read their writings. Madison, Jefferson and Washington are good starting places - and you may believe that they believed in men - not governments.

cheers
Talbot
