I've failed quite a bit but it makes my successes that much sweeter.

Nothing like understanding success from hard work, belief, and not having some negative person telling you that it is not possible.

I saw that pic on FB a while back. Cream does rise to the top generally. I'd also like to interject that every case except Einsteins was more likely the sheer stupidity of the person who held them back. They were able to overcome by simply continuing to pursue their ambitions.

Think about how many more people are also cream that should rise to the top, yet are unfortunate enough to run into dozens of "blockers", to the point of complete discouragement or never finding that opportunity -

Think about it- If michael jordan had been kicked off a few more teams.. eventually he would have aged out and could have ended up being a car salesman..

It goes a long way towards making my point that we need a society that can nurture our strengths and not discourage them. We complain we don't have enough innovators in this country, but we also don't have an environment that allows them to flourish. I'd say our environment as it stands more or less kicks them repeatedly with a size 13, and rewards only those who choose to fight back and fight dirty. Most of the decent people who've succeeded (like those above), are exceptions and not the general rule.

All education should be free, and allow for those truly motivated to achieve the highest education their motivation and IQ will allow.

The whole process of invention has been sucked lifeless by our patent laws (and global laws we've influenced) and private companies buying out inventors and/or burying the inventions in the patent office, or by these invention 'helper' companies who prey on inventors the same way these festival promoters prey on musicians.

There's two good examples of how corporate lawyers and privatization has hurt the common man and the nation as a whole.

I think I read one time that although Michael Jordan scored more than most other player he also missed more!

Ive had many many failures in my life, but I think most of the time I learned something from them that helped me overcome something later on.

I disagree that those were "failures" in the classic sense. Again, leaving einstein out because it doesn't really fit the context- all of those people were summarily disregarded by an authority figure. They moved on and were realized for their talents by a different authority figure.

Instead of putting due focus on the authority figures who stand in our way, we instead view them as some sort of guardians that prevent the "lazy" people from achieving success, regardless of talent or eligibility. (edit: that's not a good way to put it).. meant to say those 'guardians' prevent anyone they deem unworthy, whether it be that they see them as lazy, or a threat, or just undeserving.. It's always these people who look down at others who can give or take opportunities.

I'm not saying that those people (in the OP's post), and people like them, aren't achievers and deserving.. quite the opposite, I'm saying that there are so many more like them that run into nothing but those authority figures who disregard them (often times because the authority figure feels threatened by them) throughout their whole lives.

Throughout my life, I've witnessed very talented and deserving people be absolutely squashed time and time again, and simply wanted to point out that we could be, and have, so much more (in our society) if we get off this kill or be killed mentality in our society.

My points are entirely philosophical, so don't try to link this to the tired discussions on how much of a commie (some of you think) I am.

I've seen lots of very talented people who never realized their potential. They just gave up and accepted mediocrity, smoked a lot of dope, became dependent on the system. The story here is not the authority figures who failed to fully realize their talent. The story is these people didn't quit! They got back up and went back in. Don't miss the plot Kramer.

I can understand in today's environment why creative people quit professional pursuit of music... There is absolutely, unequivocally no incentive to do it. I think I mentioned this before. There will never be another 'Beatles' or anything close to it, no matter how good the subsequent talents, for the simple reason that there will never be the type of audiences they experienced. No body gets excited anymore...So, no matter how good or brilliant...its game over in this lifetime.

Ya commie JACKWAGON! Just kidding dude! Anytime I talk like that I ain't serious man! I don't think you are a commie. I believe you to be a good person just that you have a different opinion and that don't make you a bad guy!
People in your life are not going to believe in you as much as you NOT EVEN YOUR PARENTS! Which was my case. My parents always said your never going to amount to anything with that damn music! Now they are my biggest fans (dads dead) I have had people tell me you can't sing and you can't play guitar (been a long time ago) but I didn't let their opinions affect me. I knew what I was capable of and I kept focused on what I wanted to do. Now I am doing it my way (as old Frank said). I believe what you get out of life is what you make of it!

I'm not knocking those who lean in and take on diversity head first. I just see feel-good posters like that one and the cynic in me kicks in and reminds me of those who aren't 'famous' and still considered 'lacking'

I just wanted to point out the ill's in our society related to that poster.

Jackwagon is so 1948.. I think peckerhead at least moves you up 40 years, so start using that instead :p
