I found an ad for a group of musicians looking for a fill in (temp) while their regular vocalist is away on bereavement leave. lol

So I solicit them. They wanted cover music. (uggh)

I figured that the set list wasn't difficult.
So I sent them links to this and that. ssdd.

The fing little bastard writes me back and tells me that what I do is too light for the covers they want to play.

(I never sent him any of the Asteroid Suicide Cult stuff)

I have to laugh, the material I remember was;

Lean to Fly by Foofighters
Low by Cracker
Control by Puddle of Mudd
How you Remind Me by Nickelback
Machine Head by Bush
Man in a Box by Alice in Chains
It’s Been Awhile by Staind
Love Removal by Cult
Slither by Velvet Revolver
Pretender by FooFighters
Even Flow by Pearl Jam
Higher by Creed

I asked him that we could just get together and play the short set from top to bottom.

And then I got flatly refused. LOL

I always marvel at the way some people refuse to try even enough to reach the bare minimum and yet some are always trying to reach beyond their own scope.

Be the latter, not the 1st one.

Being afraid or dismal is unattractive in a band-mate. lol

Tread where others fear to go..(cause that's where the really good sh*t is).
And screw the masses, they don't know anything at all.

Capt for what little music Ive heard you sing I cant imagine you doing a great job with the list you put on here.

These guys want a blood and guts singer, and Ive just never heard any of your material get anywhere close.

To me they saved you the time of hauling yourself over there and then being rejected.

But thats just my take, from a 3rd person perspective

Scotty,

I've listened to the songs you posted on your profile, and knowing what I know about the play list here...I don't see a real close match in vocal magnitudes.

As for the getting snubbed, It stings.. I get it... But remember, there is a reason you chose to be a song-writer in your style...It wasn't necessarily to become a another guitar slinger or sand-paper vocal candy.

Let the cover artists ...
have their cover glory...

Indeed; recite their best...
But they don't own the 'story'

Just shows: don't waste your time chasing something that 'isn't you'.

I thought the "proof is in the pudding".

(Never tell people no before you listen to them in person. The convex is true as well. Never tell them yes before you listen to them in person.)

I guess I need to drop some of the "Asteroid Suicide Cult" on the player, hmm? ('Cleaner and melodic' is harder than 'dark, dirty and distorted'.) lol

It's so dark and distorted though. I am having a difficult time getting a mix I like of it as well.

The songs that band wanted to play/rehearse were stupid easy as well.

They just wanted to practice while their regular singer was out visiting
after someone died etc.

I was just a "temp".

I guess I am more open, but I usually play with just about anyone 1 time to see what's what. Immediately afterwards is evaluation time, not before.

"Samples" are only what they are, no more and no less.
The moral of the story may be, "they more and varied, the better". idk.

"Keep The Faith" buddy is all I can suggest to you.. do not try to be somebody you are not.. distortion is your signature riff so advise to keep it...it's you..

The point was to rehearse with someone else's club.

I wasn't planning on filling any shoes, merely to stretch my repertoire a little.

I thought everyone did one style with one bunch of peeps and others with other people. You know, no one likes everything all the time so versatility is a positive.
In that regard, I am a chameleon as I end up doing whatever the soup du jour is. Blues, Rock, Psychedelic, Country, Clean, Dirty.. it doesn't matter on a temporary basis.

I just won't do certain types of music as a regular thing. Like I don't want to learn 100 covers or play C+W.
I'd rather write 100 tunes and have 10 of those be ok, while 5 of those were truly outstanding.

Those couple few tunes I mentioned as not very difficult, it might not have worked out but it would have been interesting enough for 1 night's worth of musical endeavor.

Short sighted individuals are a dime a dozen.

I'd sure not lose any sleep over it.

Thanks George and yeah, any hard feelings washed away with the am shower that goes on each and every day.

If I held a grudge, I'd be full up already. lol

We had a young man from Honduras out to play with us a few weeks back.
He plays in the "new metal" style yet he threw out some taste full licks with our songs. Despite my feeling that he kinda wasted some of our time throwing out some covers he likes I understand that he's never played with a band before so it's to be expected.
When we are done recording I expect to invite him out again because you just never know what can happen if you don't give it a fair shot.

He may not come though as his last trip what when the cops showed up out here .

George I had a dream last night that you guys wrote a new song and there was some vocal harmony in it.

I don't know if that means anything, but that last blurb brought it to the surface so I thought I would comment on it.

That's odd . . . we recently voted to allow JAX to do his own harmony on our recordings until such time as we can find a suitable vocalist / keys player.
