I finally watched "Prometheus" last night on my 3D home theater. Wow! Typical Ridley Scott, eye-popping special effects, so-so story. Why can't these guys in Hollywood write a decent plot? Why spend millions on fantastic graphics to bolster these sub-par stories? But overall I have to recommend it if you're into sci-fi or liked the "Alien" series.

FX - yup, story - nope. Typical these days from H-wood. That's why they keep remaking movies, no original ideas left.

In the case of "Prometheus", they over-complicated the plot in a goofy attempt to "explain" some of the questions raised in the original "Alien" movie. If you're going to do a prequel, you don't have to explain everything; that's why "2001: A Space Odyssey" remains the greatest sci-fi movie ever made.

Did it have anything to do with the Greek Prometheus?

I loved Alien when it came out (The only SciFy that kept me on the edge of my seat at the Movie theater...(I think surround sound was coming out about then..or Dolby..) I remember the theater rumbled and the eerieness of the cinamatic music caught me..

Vaguely. The old rich financier mentioned it briefly, but I really didn't pay much attention. I'll have to watch it again to get the reference.

i remember Aliens came out just before I went overseas. It was so cool - "In Space - no one can hear you scream!" Loved those billboards. And it was genuilnely, truly creepy. The most original of all monsters up until then, setting a new standard for horror.

The other big movie then was Rolling Thunder. We used the script in a writing seminar as how to do a standard action film well. Tommy Lee Jones ruled in that, "Just let me get my kit, Major..."
