Hey, im trying to do this jazz song that i saw on the internet. i have the chord name's but im having a very hard time finding the right ones since there are like 20 different ways to play that chord. I want to avoid hopping up and down the fretboard if possible. can anybody give me some links/pictures to play these chords?

The song goes:

B13, E9, B13, E9, B13, C#m7, F#9, B13, D 13, C#13, C13

I know that B13, D 13, C#13, C13 all have the same shape (I'm pretty sure anyways)

Thanks alot for anybody that can help, it's driving me crazy!!

Try this page: Review Carefully. You should prolly also get familiar with the term Dominant, and 'resolve" Once you get these shapes, then its really down to what your personal groove is ...Up and down the frets or nailed down on some preferred position.

For crying out loud,,, It is just a blues song,,,,, use your ears, it is an easier way to learn what would take two days of theory, and every one would get it wrong anyway.

w/o hearing the actual song....i would start by playing these chord shapes all around the 7th to 10th frets because of the smooth voice leading in the top notes

B13 7x789x
E9 x7677x
C#m7 9x999x
F#9 x9899x
D13 10 x 10 11 12 x
C#13 9 x 9 10 11 x

Ask that question here and some lib will over think what blues are all about and give you a 1/2 dozen chords that can screw up a good blues progression.

OOPS too late. :) :)

hey, there's them that can do. and there's them can teach. and there's them can do both......

aaaaand then..there's always them that's gotta bitch about the above.

someone just coming up asks for help w some chord forms and some will help, while others....well, we know how that's approached by them. "just use your ears"...yeah, now THAT'S helpful!

'sides, i'm pretty sure josh described the tune as jazz not blues.

slacker, i know it was just your attempt at humor...at least that's how i'm choosing to take it, so no worries bro.

This site is a pretty useful resource for chord shapes and it has a lot of depth. When playing a new song using unfamiliar chords, it is perfectly ok to fish around a bit to find shapes, sounds and positions you like. Sometimes you want the leading tones to stand out. Sometimes you want to create a moving bass line. Every song is different:

I agree with Planet's choices as a good starting point. If you like the way they sound and feel, you're done.
