OMG! I just spent the best day of my life up at a mountain ranch in Timberon, New Mexico, listening to some of the best Texas Blues and rockabilly bands ever! The BBQ was good ...! the music was good...!
Drove there with the top down in the car... Sheeeit ...It was like Hollywood!
Two bands that really grabbed my attention
There is a band called the "Hillside Gamblers"...And they are all chuco-town... Two are el paso home grown and two are from LA, originally ) ,,,but these dudes absolutely knocked the ball out of the park! The bassist uses an Upright , and his chops were every bit as good as Flea... He even pulled a Hendrix on one of his solos...Can you imagine..a big-ass upright bass... playin it behind your back? Its a must see! LOL ! The lead guitarist has got Brian Seltzer down , better than Brian Seltzer...
Then A guy name CW Ayon... I think he's a Mescalero-Apache... He does the old school R &B ..ala Robert Johnson and Lee hooker style ... He was a one man band...with a bass Drum and a snare. Between those two, and his excellent picking/slide and lead playing and singing abilities. he brought some amazing heartbeat into the genre...
There were many other absolutely awesome bands...
I am just so stoked about it! LOL!
The weather was fabulous, and Its on my permanent yearly calendar... from here on out
