Back in the 1970's an inventor made some sight modificatons to HIS American vehicle where he could use water instead of gas and it worked. The per gallon mileage was better than gas and he mysteriously died from poisoning. I wonder who was responsible.

any personal dabbling in racing will quickly debunk both of these fantasies.

If so, he turned it into a very efficient steam engine, and I doubt that was the case. As JCP stated. No way.

There was guy named Tom Ogle, right here in EP, who came up with a system, and he claimed extensive mileage per gallon of fuel. .

Strangley enough, He died shortly after the press got wind of his invention.

Not only was it the case, but it was fully documented. He had full instructions on how to do it yourself. It wasn't really hard to do apparently. A friend of mine has all the info and I believe he may eventually try it himself on his own vehicle. he does a lot of driving each year as he is the owner of Keeping You On The Mother Road, a tourist guide for Rt 66.

In the case of water,
the first thing you will notice is, it is not fuel, it is exhaust
the result of the combustion of hydrogen and oxygen.
there fore the only way you extract power from water is to;
A) effect state change. water to ice, ice to water or water to steam or the reverse.
you can extract 970 btu's per lb in latent heat.
B) hydrogen fuel cell, just look that up.
the byproduct of this is water.

now in racing as with the aviation you can use water injection to dampen detonation in high compression motors.
you extract can more power per pound of gasoline in turbo charged motors.
but the water dose not burn it absorbs excess heat, which is what water dose best.

water as a combustion fuel is preposterous.

when the price of gasoline is on the rise all kinds of fairy tales are generated.

start with the NASA engineers.
what did we use to power the Saturn V?
No 2 fuel oil and pure oxy.
Why? because at the the time and still to this day no single substance contains more energy per lb.
