To me it's kind of like eastern music, meets the beatles, meets an 80s ballad.

Can anyone put a scope on it and lay out the conventional songwriter notations?

It sounds like a melodramatic anthem.....Something along the lines that XTC might do . I dont hear anything eastern in any of it. Its a good piece... And I think the dude, has captured 'urgency', albeit unrequited ...

I'm not a fan of the band either Scott - a friend turned me on to the song

I'm actually suprised at how little movement there is in the song. I'm not a fan, either, but I have heard some stuff that I liked (this wasn't one). I started to sit down and write out the progression, in terms of verse/chorus/etc., but I'm having a difficult time getting into the song. There are some initial Dream Theater-esque ideas floating around, but it never seems to develop beyond the original theme.

Also by comparison, the Dream Theater song basically describes one person's entire life. The AV7 song, while clearly having tones of suicide or some kind of self sacrifice, is vague and pretty poorly written...but then again, they are making way more money than I ever will, so they must be doing something right.
