some may wonder if their music is rocknroll

here's the test: If you can sing the theme to the old Batman TV show to it.

You have rocknroll

:P

LOL! I remember watching the very first episode of Batman & Robin on ABC.

It happened when I was in a rec -room in the basement of our building in Brooklyn NY. They had a huge B&W TV mounted on the wall (I Was 7. So, huge was anything bigger than a hub cap in circumference...) I remember being mesmerized and duly occupied with my attempt to reconcile the screen's announcement... ("In Color")

ASCAP/BMI/SESAC.

What do yer think bout thisms...

I'm on Board of Members at ASCAP elected in 1999. Being on one is usually recognized by another as far as any radio etc accomplishments. They're mainly a royalty tracking system. All venues, radio etc pay a annual fee to ASCAP and radio reports all playlists to ASCAP. ASCAP then looks at the highest percentage of airplay at radio and parses some of the money out that they collected form the annual fees of radio, venues. You have to have a pretty intense airtime at radio to qualify for royalties from any of these companies. Pop artists , and the like tend to take the highest royalty, and the airplay as you all already know is determined by how much money the 4 majors pay the Clear Channels to get the most airtime spins for their artists. So its closed loop cycle .you're in or you're out and the 4 majors have been dictating the industry for awhile when they're not suing kids on the Internet. A band we have in 200 was rated #1 at Capitol Radio (highest rated rock show) and multiple commercial rock radio stations with several rock awards and rock radio wars against some major label bands. We never received enough airplay even with that amount over a 3 yr period to receive royalties from any of it. If I remember correctly in 1999 - 2000 the highest royalty pay out from ASCAP was to Madonna who had 30% royalty airplay. The band was shut off radio in early 2001 and none of the societies came to defense. It was after the band beat Roadrunner Records on two separate occasions in 2000 in rock radio wars against a new song release named Big Truck by a band Coal Chamber. Apparently Roadrunner and Sharon Osbourne had an issue with it. Coal Chamber was sent to the bands hometown within 3 months after the band was pulled off radio. 4 majors open to competition? lol doubt it. they're coke heads and they want their lifestyle and prostitutes at all of the musicians expense.

Yikes! Thanks America, for sharing this insight. By the sound of things, it seems kind of discouraging for the up & coming musicians... But it sure does explain in part, why the radio stations (of scale) usually have such a limited playlist. Seems they take the kick-backs and make more profit by limiting the airtime for various artists.... Or have I got it wrong?
