A scrap company I worked for a couple of years ago had a grandfathered clause to have his scrapyard where it was, as the suburb it resided grew around him. His thought process was to invest in a large crane. Build scrap piles higher. Make ear shattering noise as the piles grew higher. An investor built a 5 story hotel less than 500 yards from the scrapyard. Ground breaking started before the economy and real estate went bust. They recently finished this lavish hotel and began running tv commercials. One of it's sale points is the beautiful view. The camera angle is about 10 feet away from the window looking out towards downtown Columbus' skyscrapers. Any closer to the window would reveal the imposing scrapyard.
