Last night we played at the annual Christmas party for the Hou-Tex Hawgs biker club. What a great bunch of folks! Before we started they had everyone turn face the flag and say the Pledge Of Allegiance! They MADE us eat and the food was awesome catered by Joes BBQ. of Alvin Tx.! The biggest applause we got for the night was before we started the 2cd set our singer Jerry told them how much we appreciated the fact that they recited the Pledge Of Allegiance!

I've only played two biker venues over the years, and in one them (up near pittsburg) we were misbooked. All orginal, soft rock. We didn't even know how to play born to be wild!

In both cases they were great gigs. They were respectful to us and we to them. Are they rowdy? Do I care?

In the misbooked gig we explained to the crowd what had happened and who we were, and vowed to give them our best shot. To our surpise they applauded, sent us drinks and it ended being a whole lot of fun.
(we figured out how to play Born to Wild on our break  )

I've done a couple of those, had a great time. One was a Jambalaya Festival gig for a Baton Rouge group, someone dumped a half gallon pitcher of beer in a monitor 20 minutes before starting time but it turned out ok, no damage. Otherwise it was great. They treated us well, and enjoyed the show. We played all Classic Rock, but didn't even attempt Born to be Wild...

Second one was an acoustic solo thing and I got freaked out. This group didn't believe in applause. Practically ignored me...but their president told me don't worry, everyone loves it and he explained the applause thing. To them it's like admitting you're better then they are. So I just played and didn't worry about it.

Then I played "Turn the Page", thee huge Bob Seger hit. Everything stopped...nobody moved a muscle, every eye in the place was on me. A guy playing pool stopped in mid shot and stood there and watched. You could hear a pin drop in a 6 car garage full of about 75 bikers...damn...OK, so I finished, everything resumed, played 2 more and took a break.

The guy who "booked"me asked me if I knew what I just did. "Well, no", says I.

One of their members was killed in a wreck a month earlier, Turn the Page was the song they played at his funeral...

After it was all over their president told me I had a bunch of new friends, if I ever needed them just let him know...all in all it was a good time, I enjoyed it. I'd do it again any time.
