The only places I've heard of doing ticket sales gigs here in Detroit are Harpos and St. Andrew's. There are plenty of good places that cater to original bands but you will be playing for the door, so if you don't bring at least 10 people you will not be paid, and you will need at least 50 to make decent cash. We're playing at Corktown Tavern Friday but we regularly play at Simon's, Lagerhouse, Old Miami and Elbow Room and have never had a problem.

toxicmetal11 wrote:I live in Phoenix Arizona where the music scene sucks as much as the clubs. These fat f**k who run these nightclubs and expect band members to sell tickets to strangers on the streets are complete and utter MORONS BORN IN POND SCUM. You heard me and you know who you are! Got a problem with that? TIME, PLACE.

Bands are hard enough to just keep together as it is, then we have to rehearse and be 200%, play some toilet bowl crust open mic night and MAYBE get a gig. "You guys got a following?" What kind of ASANINE, STUPID question is that??? Yeah, I got ya following right here jack! Sure, I have 200 close wild partying drinking fans at the ready, whether a Tuesday or a Friday night, they'll pay your frickin' $8.00 cover charge or worse, TICKETS. I don't play in a band anymore, I record CDs and got a publisher. I'll fight my way to avoid the club scene - its a bust and I'm just passing on wisdom via experience; bands, don't bust your butts for these jerks. Or go ahead. Talk to you in oh, two years. See how ya doing - or not.

I'm Laughing here because I totally and unequivocally get it , what yer saying... If you think Phoenix is bad...dude, try El Paso Tx... Its so bad here, I really believe that some of the acts are paying the club owners to play there... Seriously, its even gone to the little coffee shops..One guy in particualr had the audacity to insist that any players in his coffee house "had " to bring a fan fare of at least 25 people... to set up a mic and burp out a wooden song or two... Im like.."Get the f**k serious".... LOL!

If you wanna get back at the club owners, just book the gig and then call the TABC to pay a visit. Half of these Mother f**k ers are under age and shame on the club owner for serving them...off the bands' backs... (Just make sure that the kids in your following get a heads up about it... before it happens) 8)

BTw like your work Good stuff..

DAMN!! Thank you for the "two thumbs up" man, it makes me feel like "the magic" is out there, in LA (was there last summer, I actually kinda dug the place) its a surreal and bizzare city, hot on the outskirts but I loved the drive on the freeway into the downtown to our hotel by the airport, the sky was ALWAYS dark, it was cool out, planes land almost "I can touch the landing gear" close when eating at the In and Out burger. Loved that like nowhere else - but I agree with you - anything can, and does, happen in LA. And since my style of metal is not SCREAMO and not ultra-commercial either, I need to get it where the market is wide open. LA can afford to take chances c'os let's face it, what does it have to lose? One way or the other I'm going there, maybe this year, maybe the next, but not much longer. I'm going to have to take a monumental leap of faith and just do it, with a band that's worthy of a drunken drugged out dance on the hoods of cars on the sunset strip (Hey Jim, can ya hear me?).
