I played last night at the Hideaway, at an open mic.

There's a local guy I've been hearing a lot about, Paul Pfau, that I'd really been wanting to see. He was there, hosting.

He's a young guy, yet he knew more blues than I did ('twas a blues jam). Very personable. Doesn't mind sharing the stage with us old guys. He's a very good guitar player & front man.

They let me play for almost an hour, I think, finishing out the jam.

Had a great time, & the music was good.

There's a recording of it on reverbnation, but I can't get it to play...

There were two sax players on stage, & three guitars, a singer, drums & me at the end of the night. Lotsa fun!

This guy named 'Milkfoot' had a Zoom recorder at the gig, & recorded it.

How's the quality?

Sounds allright. All I hear is mainly the rhythm guitar (gee that's surpising) and the drums. I can barely hear the sax though, was he miked? I can hear your bass if I really tune in, but I wish you were louder. Oh, there you are, I can hear you while dude does his solo. Sounds really good!

Those little Zoom recorders are nice man! That's a really good live recording IMO. Maybe my ears are sensitive, but I could hear everything. I followed the bass and it came out nicely.

I've been thinking about open mic's to get back to playing again. What genre would be the best to hone in on? I always hear about Blues nights more than anything. So do I need to get my chops down more rhytmically, or with lead g?

With the blues jams, you can get away with rhythm IF you're a singer, from what I've seen. If you show up with a guitar, they expect you to either sing with it or lead with it, nothing in between.

Sorry, it probably is a better recording but I'm over here on a cheap computer with crappy little speakers. I would listen at home, but now my headphone plug is all jacked up so I can't use my speakers I just bought a month ago.
