I still prefer myspace for bands. A lot more contact for musicians. I don't have a face book. I am a drummer looking for musicians to form a band. I wanted to do originals and covers. Now rethinking and want to try a Heart or Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Anyone who knows musicians in the Schuylkill County Pa. region please let me know.

"It is amazing now what you can do to create a web presence that at least seems almost live, and maintain multiple accounts with relative ease. It's setting them all up and customizing them to begin with that's a pain."

All the better for big brother to see you my dear..... said the big bad wolf.

Facebook, something like reverbnation and your own website combined is the only way to go...as an indie smoother, we have really seen great results in this trio of website promotion...we are now with 3 booking agents and beginning to get the work we want...opening act for A-listers in our genre...BUT...having said that your need to be savvy...willing to budget for advertising on FB and work it EVERYDAY...hope that helps and adds something to this topic....good luck out there!

MySpace was sooooo big, not long ago, that they were more the target of malware and viruses being spread, or spammers, etc... MySpace suddenly seemed like a jungle, where that was concerned. They change their code weekly or monthly to prevent this, but it doesn't ever fix the problem. Then there is the ability to CUSTOMIZE your own MySpace profile with graphics, etc... but most people aren't code-savvy, and alot of those people's pages take FOREVER to load, because their pages are so poorly done, or loaded down with too many graphics.

Facebook instead, gave people games, and interconnectability (can I get away with that word? lol) which resulted in more user-interaction... which... well... kind of defines the term "social networking".

So people flocked to Facebook, and MySpace has being trying to play catch up ever since. Facebook was more "fun" I suspect. How many times, year after year, can you tell people... "Look at my new profile design!" ... "Yeah, wow! It's butterflies instead of froggies! Great look!"

I suspect some of those things played a key role in the flip-flop between MySpace and Facebook. MySpace may find something novel to compete with eventually, or it may be that a new player comes along, and everyone flocks there. Because online communities can be a fickle proposition. The "next great thing" comes around pretty rapidly, in this day and age, of information at the speed of light.

I really think that facebook did it so right that they will hold on to the masses for a long time.

MySpace just announced this morning that they are giving the site a makeover and will make it more appealing to young people. Hopefully they will also make it easier for users to customize their pages.

Facebook is headed for the #1 spot for malware and viruses now. Those are declining on Myspace. I guess being second does have its benefits.
