Saturday, July 24, 2010 - Suicide Machines at St. Andrews Hall with The Code, Wreak Havoc, We Are the Union and The Bill Bondsmen. Suicide Machines officially broke up in 2006 but have had a couple of reunion shows since; this was one of them. The place was way oversold, there was no air conditioning and the ceiling fans were off (why??) so the heat and humidity quickly became unbearable. Is this a strategy to sell more drinks? If so they should be ashamed of themselves. The Bill Bondsmen came on at 7:20pm; three guitarists, bass, drums and vocals. The group's name is a joke on veteran Detroit news anchor Bill Bonds. I must be getting ancient because I honestly couldn't decipher a word screamed and the music was just an assault on the ears. We Are The Union was next and a little better (they had a trombone player which was cool) but I don't think I could tell you which band was which in a blind listening test today. Screaming vocals and detuned guitars with very little melody, hooks, bridges or choruses. My son loved it as did 98% of the crowd but I felt like a fish out of water.

At least you didn't tell them to turn it down.

That's a funny coincidence as one of the young men that played at our break last night did his own computer generated original Techno-Christian thing and sang live with it. I could not understand a word he said either but the younger people seemed to enjoy it.
Was kind of a groovy beat though. ( do people still say groovy ? )
Made me want to yell MORTAL COMBAT and kick somebody's ass.
