First off let me say I believe it's the man that makes the art effective not the other way around.

The Ving Tsun / Wing Chun practitioners I've been privileged to cross hands with have all been very direct and aggressive with their hands in dominating the center line. They also were very rooted in a " short " modality and have some difficulty adapting to shifting application of the short (southern) and long ( northern ) motion philosophies. In short, you don't want to play their game with them...

This one dimensionality however is one of the drawbacks of inner vs intra school training.
My first Sifu was notorious for shouting "shift" in the middle of your sparring match. And you had better change the style you were using when he did too. We were also required to seek out and attend other schools as part of our curriculum.
The idea being the less "unfamiliar territory" you had the less likely you were to "freeze up" when faced with confrontation.

Man you got me wanting to juke some now.
