100 million MORE ppl? CRAP!

"Vibrant suburban town centers" where ppl can gather & mingle? You mean more WalMarts & other retailers & restaurants, where ppl noisilly consume ever more CRAP as they ignore each other?

No... they are little villages to get things that you need, be entertained and get stuff done, without having to drive 40 miles to do it all.
A little post office, store, a few restaurants, a dry cleaner. Maybe a theatre.
Some people want to just be in a nice neighborhood and not have to go into the city proper.

Of course, none of you have ever encountered one if you haven't spent any time in a large metropolitan area.

I'm for them.

(And no, I'm not talking about the Boizeee area. They had a few in the Denver metro area.)

Craig, I think capt is being ridiculous. He posted 5 things yesterday and not one of them was positive.
I hope he is O.K.
Meanwhile most of you folks are posting enjoyable fun things, Thanx.
Even if we don't agree on everything, Chippy is right on trying to keep it a bit on the lighter side, and I do enjoy ALL of the music that gets posted here.

That doesn't mean we won't have tremendous differences of opinions,, and ways of explaining them. But please, don't fall into the "STRINGDANCER " method of posting ,just to incite the wrong chord in an otherwise great song.

That's what we call a "strip mall," Zip. They're all over the place out here, & I won't call them "vibrant suburban town centers," cuz that is just too pretty a term for yet another ugly buncha stores clutterin' up the roadsides in the name of the almighty dollar. Ppl don't mingle there. They get thier sh*t & they get the hell out.

I'm not really all that far out in the STICKS, btw. I'm a mere 100 miles from DC, an hour away from Frederick, MD (which is solidly chock-FULL of these vibrant suburban markets, btw!), & 45 min from Winchester, VA (which also has a bunch of 'em), & 20 min from Hagerstown, MD (which has more than ITS fair share of these wonderful community gathering spots). Hell, even Martiansburg has the same old crap, complete with the post office.

Our mall, the former "vibrant" meeting place, has been sold to Mountain State University, cuz the stores within haven't been raking in the big bucks. The ppl that HAVE the big bucks work in the city, & shop there, so the WalMart is even moving out of its location by the mall, & into a strip mall. They just BUILT a strip mall with Target & all of the usual attending stores in it, about 1/2 mile from the mall. How many frikken "vibrant suburban town centers" can YOUR area support? Frederick, MD has 5 whole miles of them! It's STILL called "the Golden Mile." Now, it's just an extremely cluttered ugly line of stores & restaurants, mostly fast food, btw, & you can see the light pollution from the top of the nearest hill, & the place is an hour away.

It'd be NICE to be able to see the frikken SKY! I could when I came here, back in '84, but it's been blotted out by the "vibrant suburban town centers" over the years.

Can't Americans find ANYTHING to do but f*ckin' SHOP? We are the only country in the world decadent enough to make a "sport" out of it! We even encourage our elderly to join in the fun, as "mall-walkers," in the name of thier "health" (though there's little that can be called "healthy" about walking on concrete for hours on end). Gimme a break from American consumerism!

Believe me, I am the original troll and I have been damn polite to this point.

But please speak music, the endless tirade of bull S. is unreal.

You'd think this is all that some people have to do.

If you need work, come here. I'll put you to work and you'd be so tired that you prolly won't be typing the same tired political diatribe over and over like a broken record.

Oh and F U too, Glenji.

I haven't even started to kick your ass yet, but I am warming up the steel toe.

No, Im not talking about strip malls.
These are more like the little town squares that used to exist, without having to actually incorporate into a city.

LOL

Didn't mean to offend your intelligence, Zip. The facts remain though, that the end result is the same.

#1 - Ppl won't get together to mingle & such any more than they do at any other shopping center.

#2 - Depending upon the success of the cute little village-looking shopping center, others will spring up nearby that will NOT follow that cute little example. The more success the "town center" stores have, the faster the area will be ruined by either copycats that do it poorly, or outright ugly little strip malls that destroy the pretty stores through lower pricing competition.

#3 - It ALWAYS comes down to $. If you build ANYTHING, the stores will come, followed by the fast food, followed by more stores, & still more fast food, until you have those wonderfully atrocious semi-urban sprawls that don't remotely resemble anything like the original intent, & you still have a population that lives vicariously through thier tv's, cell phones & computers instead of actually living together in a community.

If it's a community you want, you need to keep the stores & restaurants out of the equation, because the markets will invariably destroy the community.

I've seen these cute little "town square" experiments. We have them in the east, too, & they always end thus.

I need a job actually.

But you may get your wish soon anyway. I was finally able to get the cords I needed to have my PA running again, and I am furiously working on learning more covers, so I can get some solo-gigs locally.

I need to bring some cash home, or music is over for me, for good.

So, I probably won't have time to post as much anyway.

But you shouldn't get pissed off, for me writing about WHATEVER I want to write about. Don't read the threads you find boring. I don't censor you... don't try and censor me!

Plus, I post all kinds of stuff here... Music news, music topics, funny and interesting stories. I comment on other peoples articles, or their new music too.

Smoke some more weed dude.

Geez... I wouldn't be even half as angry and obnoxious as you can be, if I was regularly smoking weed. 8)

Seriously... what are you doing wrong? Not inhaling, like Bill Clinton... Buying catnip, thinking it's ganja? :D

If it's not working for you bro... just mail it to me!

Ha ha!

Forrest Gump!

Love that movie! ;-)

And I think I know what you are talking about... nothing like a strip mall at all. And people "DO" end up chatting it up here and there and meeting and greeting... Alot of them have outdoor cafes and coffee houses, sidewalks and sitting areas, bookstores and specialty shops... it's usually a good place to enjoy just walking around and window shopping. etc...

It's what I have to do for now bro.

But I'm excited at the prospect of performing again, and I am hoping that getting out there will help me network and find out who and where the good musicians are around here.
