Yep, finally got the new computer lined out, well new to me anyway, and Audacity no longer reboots the thing every time I click Stop to end a track. Seems to be working well so I did a bit of recording the past few days.

Reworked Silhouette Of A Daydream, cut back the bass quite a bit and rolled the highs back just a little, added some delay and I think it sounds much better than the previous copy. I left that one the player for comparison. The new version is named Silhouette Of A Daydream 5. I think it's my 5th time to try and get a decent copy...

Also decided to try a recording of an older song, Desperately Electric Tea, from around 1978 or so. Again just one acoustic guitar track, a bit of delay and EQ and that's it.

I realized after doing the first one that the strings on the TAkamine are at least 2 months old, I don't think it sounds half bad for old strings...

See what you think, all constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated.

I liked Desperately Electric Tea better but really was looking for variation(s) on your melodic line.

I.e> I am looking for bridge etc.

Otherwise it sounds good to me.

Thanks Cap, I tried for months and never got anything else to fit in that song, so I left it as it is now. Just a short, simple acoustic ditty.

Desperately Electric Tea sounded a lot to me at least like one of my fav bands of all time, Nazareth. In both I was waiting desperately for a voice of some kind. Very pleasant stuff Paleo, well done.

Pretty, sounds good Billy.
For some reason I was expecting a hard rocking breakdown to come out of Silhouette of A Daydream, don't know why. Guess that's just the way my sick little mind works.

Thanks for the compliments.

Did anybody check the original recording of Silhouette and see if it does sound better? I think so but would like to see what others think too.

I just remembered, I flubbed a couple of notes, left them in there, maybe it will add some character...

Both were originally intended to be instrumentals from the start, no lyrics or vocals were ever even considered.

George - Nope, it was always intended to be just a nice acoustic tune, never even thought about adding a more rocking section. You didn't hear me play that one when we met only because the Takamine wasn't tuned to open G...did do some work on one you did hear though, started recording it a couple of days ago but still haven't figured out where it should finally go. So far it's just instrumental, but trying to figure out how to add vocals and some lead. Also screwed up a half dozen times and decided to try again later so I still don't have even a good basic track to work with. But that's OK, it won't be forgotten, it's firmly entrenched between my ears...

The new version of "Silhouette Of A Daydream 5 " is MUCH better, imho. I noticed it right off. It's brighter, & sounds more "live" to me. (Pssst! It needs a bridge! )

"Desperately Electric Tea" has some fine noodlin' in it.

While I'm at it, I should say that that Sean guy who does all the acrobatics on his axe should listen to "While We Cry" to get some idea of how to put feeling into a tune with simplicity.

You need to do a remake of "Last Train," Billy. Bring the vox up & add the other instruments (drums, bass, maybe keys?), cuz this is a fine little tune, man. The instrumental would have so much more impact if you did that.

Philby - Thanks, that's what I was wondering, if it really did sound better or it was just me...I know I have a very biased opinion...

Last Train is on my list, I've been itching to get a computer working right for a long time so I could do some more work on it, have to get some new strings for the Takamine first, which means I Have to make a few bucks, then get in touch with a couple of musicians who offered to help with bass and drums, and I hope to be working on it within the next month.

As far as adding instruments to these two, I don't think so, both were intended to be single acoustic instrumentals from the start. Listen to Peter Frampton's "Penny For Your Thoughts" and Eric Johnson's "Song For Georgie", both are intended to be in the same general style and format as those. One guitar, simple and sparse, and melodic as possible.

Gotta go to work, see you later and thanks again for the compliments and critique.
