I am sat breathless and dribbling after hearing it again for the umpteenth time. I can't recall the last time I heard an album this good. Its staggeringly brilliant. And very very important. Forget the fact its free, its f@#king fantastic.
Look at the album cover. What do you see? A man looking down upon planet earth from somewhere in this vast cosmos, surrounded by shining stars and streams of (presumably digital) numerical data, wondering what should be done with this little gem.
Now look at the track titles. Planet Earth.......Somewhere Here On Earth.........All The Midnights In The World. Its a concept album. It's a love song to us all and a plea for sanity and peace.
Lion of Judah hints at its intent. Judah was the dominant tribe among the ancient Israelites and the legendary ancestor of the Kingdom of Judah, Judea and the modern Jews.
It's also very optimistic and very beautiful. One U Wanna C evokes Marvin's masterpiece What's Goin On. Other tracks feature slap bass and driving rhythm where the only response is to dance. Go on, dance; you're meant to. There's also soaring shred guitar throughout. It's among the best albums of the last 10 years. It's his Sgt Pepper. Only Mr Goodnight smacks of lazy generic R&B, but even that is tasteful and funky.
By the time you get to the glorious concluding track Resolution, one cant help but feel that one has in fact reached one on some level. On one, its to simply put the album back on again. On another, its to go out, love someone and make the world a better place. And I think that's entirely the point.
Truly remarkable. We are truly blessed.
