OK phil you wanted to hear some pedal steel so here is a drinkin song that has some twang for sans also." Mountain Of Aluminum"
This is pretty high for you, Klugmo, ain't it? S'okay, though, you're pulling it off well.
This almost sounds over-produced to me. I can't hear the bass. Love the concept. This is real throwback old-time country. The pedal steel is just a tad too busy, like at 1:08. It distracts from the overall feel of the slow drunk singin' his heart out. It happens just before the bridge at 1:45, too. Perhaps it's just too loud in the mix?
The guitar, as always, is just right. It brings to mind a stumbling drunk, with the bending & the syncopation. It's beautiful, man.
I think my biggest complaint in this one is the mix. The drums & bass are buried in sound from the strings. It's like it's live, cuz your pedal steel player will ALWAYS be too loud on stage (LOL!), at least from my experience. (They really WORK thier volume pedals, but they still seem to be way out front, & I do mean WAY OUT FRONT, when they get a little lick to do.)
3rd listen - that bridge is pretty dark, considering the feel you're looking for in this.
Interestingly enough, I'll be PWI soonly, cuz I'm starting my day off with coffee, then I'm moving on to a gallon of sangria I put a buncha fruit in last night. On top of the flexies & Lortabs it oughtta be sumpin kinda rough on the ol' liver, but I figger it needs a workout every now & again. Then there'll be the open mic this evening...but ya know what? I'm celebrating my b'day early cuz it comes on Monday this year, so...BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!!!
So anyway, this is a good song for today. Thanks, Klugmo!
