She is a stout Mexican rancheras singer who belts out tales of being dumped and encourages women to stand up for themselves.

Now Paquita la del Barrio, who has a big Los Angeles fan base, is standing against same-sex adoption, saying, "I'd rather see a kid die."

The 62-year-old singer told Escandalo TV that, "It's not in my taste that a poor creature should be adopted by them."

The shocked reporter asked her which would she prefer: That a child die of hunger in the streets and lonely, or two human beings give him love and food?

Paquita responded: "That he die."

She explained it's better if the child dies instead of that "lifestyle."

Bienestar, a Los Angeles Latino community service and advocacy organization, is leading the charge against the vocalist. The group is demanding that homophobic attacks made by the popular singer stop. Group members are also asking for a balance of media coverage about the topics of same-sex marriage and the adoption of children by gay and lesbian parents.

A news conference with leaders and members of the Latino and LGBT communities is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bienestar's Beverly Boulevard office, said Executive Director Oscar De La O.

Now wait a minute.

She has some very good songs that "empower" latina women. One of them compares men to rats.

I actually feel sorry for her. She may lose alot of music sales now.

Cause...

With that "look" she probably had a lot of fans who are gay men.

LOL ;-)

It was sarcasm Phil.

It was supposed to be humorous.

Also followed up with a comment, intended for humor as well, infering she kind of looks like a guy in drag, so gay men may stop buying her stuff after this comment of hers.

I guess I need to work on my deivery!

Damn!

I agree Craig, it is sad when people let Ideology (what they believe) prevent them from making a proper choice.

I have many "libertarian" views, one that says "everyone must take personal responsibility"... but I can temper that with compassion. I am not so stuck on the concept of personal responsibility that I would let a paraplegic lie on the ground in front of me without offering to help them up.

I disagree with "gay people adopting"... but more vehemently I disagree with the conditions in orphanages and foster care situations. I also disagree with abortion... but respect everyone else's right to make their own choices.

But saying "NO" to abortions makes the foster home situation worse... disallowing Gays to adopt helps who? In this instance "principles" have to take a back seat to common sense.

But I find time and time again that the same folks standing up against abortions, are also against Gay People adopting and federal assistance for Foster care programs. So their Ideology keeps them from making any choices to improve the situation.

I seriously doubt this woman, despite her "harsh statement" could walk past a starving child without being moved by humanitarian compassion. But her ideology has certainly painted her in a very unforgiving light.

Obama spoke for me as well when he said at Blair House to the Republican Caucus "I am not an Ideologue... show me a better way to accomplish OUR goals and I'll listen".

I could say Single Payer is a better way, but he is right in assessing that as an unpassable option at this time. Repubs say Tort reform is the answer... and the CBO says its a "piece" of the puzzle.

Tort reform is in the bill, and Repubs are Ideologues in saying NO anyway.

This lady is doing the same thing. Making an @$$ out herself in the public eye because her unwavering conviction in the face of reason.
