Huh?

No. I'm rather laid up right now...in a bit of agony, truth be told. After taking that roof apart, the back got much worse, & it's been 4 days & nights of pure hell, & I'm out of flexies but I'm holding on to a few t3's until I hit the really bad part before it gets better.

However, I've been ordered by the wife to see the Dr again today or she's gonna kill me...

I really hate going there. I'd almost rather take an ass-whuppin', but I'm not in the shape to take it right now with my usual good nature.

Craig - I never said anything about removing blacks from history, therefore those children would still see the accomplishments of thier race, as well as the accomplishments of women & asians & hispanics &, *gasp*, even whites!

Seen in this context, as a view of American accomplishments, they would tend to see themselves as part of the process, & not separate from it.

As it stands, women, hispanics, asians, none of these have a celebratory history month. Why not? Does no one care? Celebrate those things that ALL of us can participate in, or don't do it at all.

In fact, imho, it would be much better to have a national holiday, say, the 2nd Monday of every month, where we celebrate the accomplishment of some random American worthy of note, be that person male or female or whatever race or physical or mental challenge you wanna pick. I could celebrate a "Steve Hawking Day" as easily as I could a Martin Luther King Day, couldn't you?

There are ppl worthy of note from every group in our country you want to choose from. Let us not forget that many many "whites" have also been held down by "the man," either. The Irish or Italian or Polish have all had bad times here as well, yet they, too, have had much to contribute over the years.

This present trend merely continues & celebrates our racial & sexual differences, & thus, promotes them, perhaps even more so in the minds of those "oppressed" than the rest of us.

It's time we faced our true history, I agree. But to point to only one group of ppl does them little if any good, & doesn't truly bring us together as a nation. I would much prefer those possible actions that work toward uniting us as a ppl, rather than celebrating our differences of the past & reminding ppl how bad things were at the hands of one group or other. It's time we moved past that.

Glen - I fail to see how my views hurt any Americans, so yeah, "f*ck you."

Craig, Philby, what it all boils down to is that, men and women will never see eye to eye....'cause boobs don't have eyes. :)

Sorry to hear that man. Hope you feel better soon.

You don't get what I am saying. They have ALREADY been removed from history. It's RECOVERING those things and teaching them, that I am talking about. And this is separate from "Black History Month" in my mind. That was an attempt to accomplish the same thing. I am not talking about having special curriculum only for black people, but INCORPORATING more black history in curriculum, as well as that involving women, etc...

Although I have realized I am basing more of that on when "I" went to school, which is a looooooong time ago now. My kids were telling me last night that they are learning about the Tuskegee Airmen in school right now, so that is positive. In the past, you learned about MLK and Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and George Washington Carver, and maybe Jesse Owens because of the Hitler connection, but.... not much more.

I'm just saying there should be a better emphasis on the heroes of color, and on women, who fought and achieved great strides in equality. It does not have to be an embarrassing part of our history, but instead a testimony to the power of law BY THE PEOPLE, and the flexibility of our constitution, that wrongs can be righted, that we have and are, progressing as a nation.

And I am just saying that I don't BEGRUDGE events like "Black History Month". Like you however, I don't want to see it stop being a force for good and education, and instead become something that separates us further.

But I think you are SEEING the changes happening before our eyes. Color means less than it ever did, and even in traditionally racist Georgia, you see black and white couples all the time. I think it would be virtually impossible to return to the bad days of such conflict. Racists seem like irrelevant relics today. Kids growing up today, and going to public schools, can't even believe that these things in history happened. They just shake their heads and think... "Why would people do that? Are they stupid?" - My own kids ask me that.

Racism is still a huge problem in this country. I have no problem with someone being a racist as long as they keep it private.

I had the not so enjoyable task of letting our new drummer go last night. Monday after rehearsal he started on a rant about how much he hates black people. My singer was shocked and let me know last night. This totally sucks, he was the best drummer we've had.

If you're a racist, do us all a favor and just keep it to yourself.

Good for you!

That took alot of character, particularly when it required a good deal of sacrifice on the band's part.

I admire that!
