I have even heard cops use the terms “assault rifle” and “automatic weapon” during interviews when there is no such thing as an “assault rifle” (not even in the military) and the weapons used are generally semi-automatic weapons. So are police authorities simply ignorant or pushing the propaganda of the left? Should police even be allowed to use weapons if they are that ignorant of firearms?

Most murders are committed in liberal controlled cities with the toughest gun legislation in the nation. Pretty much every gun was purchased illegally on the black market or was stolen. No mass murderer has ever belonged to the NRA. The highest numbers of gun deaths in America are through suicide. More liberals and terrorists commit mass murder than conservatives.

Do we need tougher gun laws? By all means.

But only for the criminals and law breakers who purchase guns on the black market or steal them. Liberals believe more gun legislation will work, yet in the cities they control it does not keep a single gun out of the hands anyone who wants one. Liberal controlled cities are the most dangerous in America. Liberals should forget new gun legislation and opt for the Psychic Friends Network featuring Dionne Warwick, as it would be far more effective than more gun legislation. And as a side benefit it may stop gun rushes every time the topic of more legislation arises.

The liberal war on guns is as effective as the war on prohibition or the war on drugs.

The war on alcohol brought bootlegging, poison alcohol that killed thousands, and brought us illegal gangland empires along with gang wars and the eventual Mafia.

The war on drugs has made drug empires, gave us millions of murders, increased illegal drug trade and brought drug gangs that take over American neighborhoods and even countries. It cost over one trillion dollars and pretty much raised the cost of a weed that grew along side the road for free to around 2-3K$ a pound today. Many of those addicted to drugs gravitated to prescription drug abuse. Did you know that opioid use drops everywhere marijuana is legal? True.

The war on guns made obama the best gun salesman in history. Many gun store shelves remained empty for months due to his great salesmanship. Even ammo was bought at higher prices and may even have increased black market trade when he tried to keep it out of civilian hands.

Why aren’t several ton trucks used to kill people called assault trucks? When a murderer kills a group of people with a large truck why isn’t that referred to as an assault truck?

Do you own an assault truck? Did you have to get a background check to purchase it? Was there a waiting period? Should the number of tires on it be regulated and limited? Should the government regulate how many gallons of fuel you can have to run it?

When a murderer kills a group of people with a large knife why isn’t that referred to as an assault knife?

Are there assault knives in your kitchen cabinet where a disgruntled housewife might easily obtain one? Should there be background checks and waiting periods before being able to purchase one? Housewives have been known to use them on husbands and boyfriends before. Should housewives who have access to assault knives be made to take a mental examination?

Should people who take a wife be made to take a mental examination?

Glen, has your gun left the table killed anyone yet? Is it an automatic assault pistol? How can you possibly trust it?

The term "assault rifle" is not an official term in the military lexicon, but it is a very real thing. It is any select-fire rifle that fires an intermediate cartridge larger than a pistol cartridge, but smaller than a rifle cartridge. The first such weapon was the German Sturmgewehr. Other assault rifles included the AK-47 Kalashnikov, the M-16, and several others. They are all FULLY automatic, though switch selectable to semi-automatic fire if the tactical situation calls for it. Assault rifles have been highly regulated since 1934 (a decade before they were invented!) and effectively banned since 1986. There has been no documented use of any assault rifle (meaning a fully automatic rifle) in any crime against innocent victims.

That is funny. My gun will never move until I need to to use it against some unspeakable force that is out to destroy our country. Laughing my ass off... Unless some ass hole was was walking through my house blowing of 12 gauge shells... There is always a better way... I would do everything to make sure that gun wouldn't move.

I don't want GOD to get pissed off at me.

This whole conversation comes from ignorant people. People that have no understanding of most weapons. Fully automatic weapons of war are used for spray and pray. If you are really good with it you might hit 50% of your targets.

Let me explain one silly thing. I hope assholes like this sicko didn't understand... Heavy shotguns in close quarters are far more deadly. Thats why the police use them. (many can't shoot anyway)

In a crazy scenario I would much rather face down a man with a war weapon at close range that a man with a small 38.

Now to get to a more important point... This little boy in in NOKO is trying to do the same thing. DON'T PHUCK WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.1

Nowhere can I find when or if the US military first used the term Assault rifle officially to describe a particular weapon, so that is most likely not in the military lexicon, as you stated. Or at the least I can not find any mention in any search when or why or even if that term was adopted by the US military to describe a weapon by it’s function. Do you suppose why?

Before the term “Assault rifle” was popularized it was simply an automatic rifle. Basically it was simply a submachine gun. No specification for the ability to shoot single rounds was listed in the description nor was the caliber of rounds used to designate it. Hitler certainly did not name it by its function, but rather only for propaganda purposes. If hitler was the one who named it at all, as it is not proven that he coined the term but only suggested that he did.

“Toward the end of World War II, the story goes, Hitler hailed his army’s new wonder weapon by insisting that it be called not by the technical name given it by its developers, the Machinenpistole (the German name for a submachine gun). Rather Hitler chose to call the “Sturmgewehr 44 or StG 44” something that made for better propaganda copy. Hitler called the new gun: a “storm” or “assault” weapon. So even then it simply had the term attached to it for propaganda and did not describe it by its specifications.

Not unlike the propaganda of the days of the 40's the new propaganda machine in America also uses the term assault rifle also only for propaganda purposes. As with most of what they do leftists copy the socialist propaganda of wartime Germany.

..................................................................................................

“Assault rifle” was first used to describe a military weapon, the Sturmgewehr, produced by the Germans in World War II. The Sturmgewehr — literally “storm rifle,” a name chosen by Adolf Hitler — was capable of both semiautomatic and full-automatic fire. It was the progenitor for many modern military rifles.

But the term “assault rifle” was expanded and broadened when gun manufacturers began to sell firearms modeled after the new military rifles to civilians. In 1984, Guns & Ammo advertised a book called “Assault Firearms,” which it said was “full of the hottest hardware available today.”

“The popularly held idea that the term ‘assault weapon’ originated with antigun activists, media or politicians is wrong,” Mr. Peterson wrote. “The term was first adopted by the manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and dealers in the American firearms industry to stimulate sales of certain firearms that did not have an appearance that was familiar to many firearm owners. The manufacturers and gun writers of the day needed a catchy name to identify this new type of gun.”

Actually the only thing that matters is that the media uses the term assault rifle for propaganda and that was what this thread was about not the diversion of what specifications apply to what weapon. The military never used the term to describe a machine gun as an assault weapon while I was in the service and I doubt that they do today.

yeah, that's "the only thing that matters" to YOU.

26 dead...20 wounded and your concern is semantics over the use of the term "assault weapons"???? wow. typical.

your callousness and laisez faire disregard for these and other victims of gun violence is an "assault" on good taste, empathy, and basic human decency.

you state you "can't believe it" but yet it appears you do.

WHO here is talking about survivors guilt, PTS, or how this is just this week's latest tragedy?

no one.

instead.... it's semantics over the term "assault weapons", how forks and other cutlery might also be weapons, and dismissing this latest shoot 'em up as the OP lamely points to cities that have stricter gun laws yet still suffer gun violence.

i guess you missed all that, huh?

(i won't pretend to be surprised you needed that "pointed out to you".)
