Burger-flipping robot replaces humans on first day at work

A burger-flipping robot has just completed its first day on the job at a restaurant in California, replacing humans at the grill. Flippy has mastered the art of cooking the perfect burger and has just started work at CaliBurger, a fast-food chain. The robotic kitchen assistant, which its makers say can be installed in just five minutes, is the brainchild of Miso Robotics. “Much like self-driving vehicles, our system continuously learns from its experiences to improve over time,” said David Zito, chief executive officer of Miso Robotics.

“Though we are starting with the relatively 'simple' task of cooking burgers, our proprietary AI software allows our kitchen assistants to be adaptable and therefore can be trained to help with almost any dull, dirty or dangerous task in a commercial kitchen — whether it's frying chicken, cutting vegetables or final plating.”

Cameras and sensors help Flippy to determine when the burger is fully cooked, before the robot places them on a bun. A human worker then takes over and adds condiments. More Flippy robots will be introduced at CaliBurgers next year, with the aim of installing them in 50 of their restaurants worldwide by the end of 2019. CaliBurger say the benefits include making “food faster, safer and with fewer errors”.

No I missed that.
However I think this has more to do with the hike in wages and operating costs as opposed to filling the elitists pockets. Burger flipping franchises don't make that much. It's more about the greedy unskilled racking up so much in wages that the franchises would go out of business if they didn't do this. I don't think it is as much waging war against minimum wages as it is survival. How many hamburgers would you have to sell to pay the increased wages of 4 - 6 workers? @ $15 an hour? Think about it, how many burgers would you have to sell per hour? How expensive would the burgers need to be to make a profit after operating expenses? You have product ingredients, shipping expenses included in the cost of those products, taxes, Advertising, property taxes or rent (that includes them) insurance, utilities, and so forth. They aren't trying to scam anyone, they are just trying to get out from the nanny government mandates that screw our lives up at every turn.

The unskilled burger flippers brainlessly demanded it, now they are getting it. Too bad for them that they didn't have any foresight.

People do not realize the costs that go into any service product. Why even pay a worker who gets the order wrong a great deal of the time or can't even cook your burger properly? Soon robots will take orders and get them right.

California has in the past few decades "led" the way in RAMPANT STUPIDITY. Look at the list of their Governors or the list of San Francisco Mayors since the "Assassination".

Machines break down, wear out and can not perform complex tasks in changing environments. I simply reference Fukushima and inabilities exposed there every second.

we in the West call it progress, many in the past were displaced, think about the carriage makers getting displaced by Ford automobiles, I would hate to bet how many people made their living in the carriage manufacture trade, but bet it was sizable.. a carriage maker worker could probably "cross-over" into another field more aptly than a burger flipper, but it's in one's ability to adapt that will ensure their demise or success..

I believe that automation and technology is not the ENEMIE, but rather that greedy, powerlusting and Evil Humans are. People that eat at the finest restaurants and eating establishments? I doubt it. He wants the fast food industry to pay the taxes. So who gets this tax? The politicians, naturally. Who will end up paying these taxes?The poor who can not afford to eat in upper class establishments. So gates wants to price fast food providers and make them unaffordable for the low income folks.

It would be better to say he gives wealth to those whom he chooses. God blesses both the Godly and the ungodly, for it is the ungodly who possess most of the wealth in this world.
