But seriously, thanks for your interest. It's open desert on the other side of South Mountain (the soutern border of Central Phoenix). That means a lot of dust comes over that mountain a few times a year. If they bring rain, we figure whatever. Nice. But they do come in dry a lot of the time. That dust is full of pyrite, too (fools gold). It's pretty cool if you can just check it out and then go inside. I got some decent pics of one a few months ago when we were working on Camelback mountain in the middle of town.

I got caught in one of those a couple years ago in Phoenix on I-10 headed west. Scared the heck out of me to not see what was around me, so I pulled off the highway and sat there for a long while.

Last week I saw a weird funnel cloud twice in eastern Washington state. The first one stretched all the way from the ground into a cloud in the sky, like a tornado made of dust. The other one didn't have a cloud to go to but stood high into the sky.
