Crackdown on government gun-free zones continues in Texas
Fort Worth Star-Telegram April 13, 2016

A long-promised gun law crackdown is underway in Texas. But gun owners aren’t the target. Government entities that wrongly prevent handguns from coming onto their property — in Tarrant County and beyond — are.

“Local governments have been prohibiting for years where they are not supposed to,” said Terry Holcomb, executive director of Texas Carry, who has been working with the attorney general’s office on the issue. “These [complaints] aren’t going to be forgotten about.”

Georgia? We have plenty more of that west of Austin.

Wait 'till you see northwest Texas, or as some people call it "Colorado"

Ehhh CO. I'm not into smoking pot.
I am careful going into gun free zones up here. That includes schools, post office, and the one I can't figure out. Our local national cemetery forbids firearms. Are they afraid someone might kill a dead soldier?

It's a shame that's what you think of first...Colorado is a lot more than that.

Texas does have some very nice hill country down by Austin, and we have legitimate mountains in the middle of nowhere (Ft Stockton and westward).

However in my travels I find that west Texas (New Mexico, Cali, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Montana) are the most beautiful places in the world.

"Texas law has long stated that local governments may not ban licensed Texans from carrying handguns in their facilities, except in certain weapon-free zones such as courtrooms, schools and rooms where government entities are meeting."

Weapon free zones such as schools...where how many spree shootings have occurred, with nobody able to fight back and protect the kids?

Courtrooms, where all manner of deranged criminals can be found, with good reason to want to shoot their way out...

Rooms where government entities are meeting...pretty much the criminals we need to be protected from. My guess is if they knew we could carry weapons at will we wouldn't be subjected to a lot of the stupid laws such meetings result in...

I see no reason whatsoever to deprive people of the means to defend themselves anywhere, and criminals are basically cowards to begin with, if they know you can fight back chances are good they'll look for another victim.Airline regulations should have proven this long ago. A group of terrorists managed to hijack 5 planes with box cutters and bring down the World Trade Center, one or two armed individuals on each plane could have stopped that. And I don't necessarily mean armed with guns. I wouldn't hesitate to go up against such a turd with my monopod I use now and then for my camera, or a decent sized pocket knife. Knowing a little about self defense techniques, I'd be scared but I'd face them unarmed, if all they had is a box cutter...

I can't believe our so called leaders are so damned stupid...One law abiding citizen on each plane with a .22 pistol could have saved the 3000 or so that died on 9-11. Hijackings didn't start until our stupid government started disarming passengers. I've never heard of a spree shooting at a police station or gun show, NRA meeting, target range...only in places the shooter knows nobody can shoot back.

I read an article years ago where a reporter decided to investigate this. He interviewed inmates at a federal prison who had been convicted of burglary or similar types of robbery. They were given a hypothetical situation where they could choose a place like New York, where strict firearm laws severely limit gun ownership, or Houston, where anybody without a criminal record can easily buy a gun, and asked which location would be their choice to conduct a robbery. . .

The answer was New York every time.

Gun free zones should have signs that read:

Come on in and do what you want, nobody can stop you.

Long before 9/11 we had crazy shoot up a commuter train. His name was collin ferguson. He killed and wounded many before anyone was able to answer his violence. This is just one small story of history doomed to repeat.

Just for the record, gun stores in NY have never had an open armed robbery....HMMMM.

Their time will come. Every so often some hopped up Bonnie and Clydes try to rob a doughnut shop or a policeman's bar...Read last week that two dumb bells tried to rob the dispatch sergeant at the police station thinking it was a convenience store. 8)
