The FBI's annual budget is over $8 billion - yet they don't have one person there who can hack an iPhone?

Yes, another government program that works Sooo well. You know like Obama care? Talk about Einsteins definition of insanity lets just keep growing the government so we can get NOTHING in return!

Apple should be able to take this single phone, open it and get the data, hand it to the FBI without divulging HOW they did it...and destroy the software used to do it.
That's the only way I would like to see Apple do the deed. I definitely don't want any government agency to have the ability to hack into any phone on the planet...I think one thing most of us can agree on is government agencies are not known for their honesty or integrity...
The one caveat is that once it's done, you can't put that toothpaste back in the tube. If anyone, anywhere ever gets their hands on the software that can do this...it would be serious trouble. that's why it would be prudent for Apple to do this in total secret and utterly destroy the software used. It can't be kept, it can't be stored on their servers...
If they can't do it that way, I think Apple should stand their ground.
That said, from what I've heard, the FBI claims they are not asking for a blanket back door to be created, just open this one phone. Question then becomes, do I trust the FBI?
No.

Seems pretty simple, but I don't think the FBI just wants this one phone. I think they will never be happy until they get their hands on software that will give them access to any and every phone they want at will, rather than just those involved in criminal investigations and with a subpoena included...I have no problem with any entity cooperating with a criminal investigation, but I'll never trust the FBI, CIA, NAS or any other government agency with software like that...
