Interesting common denominator of Trump fans

My finding is the result of a national poll I conducted in the last five days of December under the auspices of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, sampling 1,800 registered voters across the country and the political spectrum. Running a standard statistical analysis, I found that education, income, gender, age, ideology and religiosity had no significant bearing on a Republican voter’s preferred candidate. Only two of the variables I looked at were statistically significant: authoritarianism, followed by fear of terrorism, though the former was far more significant than the latter.
Authoritarianism is not a new, untested concept in the American electorate. Since the rise of Nazi Germany, it has been one of the most widely studied ideas in social science.

While its causes are still debated, the political behavior of authoritarians is not. Authoritarians obey. They rally to and follow strong leaders. And they respond aggressively to outsiders, especially when they feel threatened. From pledging to “make America great again” by building a wall on the border to promising to close mosques and ban Muslims from visiting the United States, Trump is playing directly to authoritarian inclinations.

Not all authoritarians are Republicans by any means; in national surveys since 1992, many authoritarians have also self-identified as independents and Democrats. And in the 2008 Democratic primary, the political scientist Marc Hetherington found that authoritarianism mattered more than income, ideology, gender, age and education in predicting whether voters preferred Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama.

This is a dangerous situation actually.

Though I support many of the initiatives proposed by Trump, I can't say that trust him to implement them in a fair way. I wish I could, but I've seen how dictators throughout history use fear to create perpetrators of their real agenda.

Trump has ALWAYS supported Democrat liberals with his money. He is talking out of both sides of his mouth and so few Republicans have noticed because he is playing the authoritarian tune. I'd prefer him over any Democrat candidate proposed so far....but that isn't saying much. I'd vote for a pile of dog poop before them.

And Trump is at least that....

He could be the refreshing change we need in America, or he could be the worst thing to happen since Obama. I'd rather not have to take that risk.

Interesting comments, with much validity. There are many candidates that are pointing out some very good opinions. However our country is descending into MOB rule. I laugh and understand the MOB is a way, too many people are just protecting their benefits.

I've said this before and now it is proving out... obama was elected because he is a rock star... Trump is too. That is why he is going to be our next president. We no longer elect our leaders for the right reason.

Thanks for your comments Ted.

I'm sticking with Trump - I don't idolize him or anything, nor do I even think this mess is fixable, but it's worth a try.

three reasons move me to support Trump:

the Democrats hate him
The Republicans hate him
The media hate him.

Those are some solid bonafides in my opinion.

Those are the same bonifides of Ted Cruz!!! ...except he's a staunch conservative.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction - Isaac Newton

This will be the election of extremes because of the polarity of the previous administration (and, again, there is no gaurantee this is the same country by then) so I think Cruz and Trump could be a smokescreen for Bush at the moment.

Cruz just insulted everyone on Twitter...

Not getting into all the issues...
Enough is enough.
Time to throw the money changers out of the temple.
Time to bring America back to the original goal of FREEDOM for all.

Right now it doesn't appear that is possible. We have too many politicians... Including far right tea party asssholes. I'm not going to go down the line, as I describe some of the far left politicians. These people do not believe in America and FREEDOM.

Freedom is being defined in a totally anti American way of life...It may be lost.
You asssholes can take away my property, my guns, my guitar, my voice, even my life... BUT... I don't know how far other Americans will allow that to become a normal policy of law.

I think Trump just ate the wrong end of a pistol with Sarah Palin's endorsement.

In 2008, she was an ex-Governor with a good track record. Now she's just a polarizing characature with an irritating voice. I understand that Trump is trying to siphon off any support of Cruz, but don't let her get on a stage with you, Donald, if you want anyone to take you seriously. Her useful time is long past!

Ted

I realize Cruz is a staunch conservative but I'm not. That train jumped the track years ago.

No more uniparty for Mrs. Talbot's oldest. Although I might consider Cruz if Trump blows up but only if he backs off with all that war like bullshit. I'm really sick of war.
