Without fanfare or any kind of general publicity, Army Gen. John F. Campbell rushed to Washington this week to warn the White House that the Taliban are about to overrun Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan, putting them in a position to destroy the American-backed Afghan government.
The report came from an unnamed U.S. military intelligence source who added, “I guess somebody’s getting frustrated that we’re over here just spinning our wheels. The Taliban planned with our withdrawal to take Helmand, and if they did, it was to be the death blow of the GIROA (the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan).”
Aside from Special Operations Forces, U.S. troops don’t appear to be doing anything except abandoning military bases as part of President Barack Obama’s planned withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.
As a result, Taliban forces are moving in and getting closer to their goal of overtaking Kabul, the Afghan capital. This will put remaining American forces and Afghan forces in serious jeopardy.
The intelligence source also stated that Afghan security forces just barely beat back a recent Taliban attack.
“It’s going to be a bad time to work for Uncle Sam if you’re a native,” noted the source, suggesting that American forces are abandoning the Afghan troops.
Without American assistance, the Afghan forces will not be able to hold Helmand Province, the largest in the country. If the Taliban takes that province, it is then in a better strategic position to threaten Kabul and the existence of the Afghan government.
“We’re planning on shutting a couple (Special Forces) camps down by December,” the source said. “Just watch it implode from there.” (H/T WND)
President Barack Hussein Obama wants desperately to leave a legacy in which he can claim he got American forces out of Afghanistan. What he is really doing is allowing the Taliban to take over Afghanistan, further destabilizing the Middle East and threatening European and American interests in the region.
