No matter how hard you try, you can’t escape the constant media barrage of dire climate change warnings.

“Climate scientists say 2015 on track to be warmest year on record,” proclaims The Guardian.

“2015 Still On Pace as Hottest Year On Record,” reads a Weather.com headline.

“This Year Is Headed for the Hottest on Record, by a Long Shot,” claims Bloomberg Business.

Not only do they say warming is unquestionably happening, they tell us climate scientists are convinced it’s going to destroy us all—unless, of course, we forsake the modern world and trade our gas-guzzling, Earth-killing cars for bicycles.

For nearly 20 years now, the Western world has been battered by these so-called “inconvenient truths” about alleged human effects on global temperature. Only the most selfish among us can ignore the scientific facts, we’re told. The debate is over.

That’s the political climate in which President Barack Obama recently announced his Clean Power Plan mandating drastic carbon dioxide emissions cuts from U.S. power plants. Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency rules will force electricity providers to cut emissions by 32 percent compared to 2005 levels, by 2030.

Although Obama’s emissions cuts and the warnings from major media outlets may sound convincing, don’t be fooled. No one wants to see polar bears drown, coastal cities flood, or millions of people starve, but the idea reducing our carbon dioxide emissions, and by a relatively insignificant amount compared to global emissions, will have any real influence on global temperature is pure, unadulterated fantasy.

Not only is there absolutely no evidence—none, zero, zilch—cutting human-produced carbon-dioxide emissions will actually reverse global temperature, the claims made about global warming are greatly exaggerated at best and deliberately misleading and dangerous at worst.

Don’t misconstrue what I’m saying; Earth did warm during the past century, some sea ice has melted, and all the world’s creatures, including humans and polar bears, are going to have to make some adjustments. But as history has proven over and over, terrifying claims about the ever-changing climate are by no means unique to our modern era.

I recently had the opportunity, thanks to one of my intrepid readers, to get my hands on the June 1818 issue of The Edinburgh Review, a popular and well-respected academic magazine published between 1802 and 1929 in the United Kingdom.

The magazine featured several very interesting stories about the extreme climate changes scientists of the time had observed. Many scientists, explorers, tradesmen, and statesmen expressed great excitement about the growing number of accounts of sea voyagers who had returned home with stories of clear and navigable bodies of water in the far north traditionally thought to be filled with dangerous sea ice.

The author of the publication’s first chapter relayed the exciting developments:

“For these two or three years past, the captains of ships … generally concurred in representing the Arctic Sea as of a sudden become almost open and accessible to the adventurous navigator. By the more speculative relators, it has been supposed that the vast icy barrier which, during many ages, had obstructed those forlorn regions, is at last, from some revolution of our globe, broken up and dispersed.”

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, there was still great interest in the hoped-for discovery of the Northwest Passage, a waterway that could take ships from Europe to Asia without having to travel all the way around South America, so stories of legendary sea captains traveling beyond the 83rd parallel in the Arctic, where they found virtually no sea ice and open waters, captured the imagination.

But with a commonsense wisdom few in the media and Western universities today possess, the author went on to explain precisely why he did not believe sustained climate change was occurring. He related a lengthy history of first-hand accounts in Europe of rising and falling temperatures; long periods, sometimes as long as a decade or more, of extreme heat or cold; and the all-too-familiar-sounding reports of melting glaciers, dying crops, and strange weather.

Examining more than 1,000 years of stories from across Europe, the author concluded climate change and natural variability were nothing to be too excited or too worried about. Glaciers and sea ice may have been melting, but eventually Earth would move into an intense cooling pattern again, the author warned. It was only a matter of time.

What’s most striking about the article isn’t that there were reports of shrinking sea ice or rising global temperature; it’s that with far less technology than what’s available to our modern scientists, at least some early 19th century climate researchers were able to look beyond the climate directly in front of them, rightly choosing to see climate on a much larger and more informative scale.

By contrast, modern climate alarmists, including President Obama, make irresponsible and terrifying claims about Earth’s future based on relatively little evidence. Yes, Earth has warmed (as it has done many times throughout its history and will do many times again), but even if there weren’t a single ounce of man-produced carbon being emitted in the world, the planet would still warm. Earth is in the midst of a warming period that began way back when the Little Ice Age ended around 1850.

It is not fair, scientifically responsible, or ethical to claim, “The year 2014 was the world’s warmest on record,” or that 2015 will likely break the record, when the truth is the official “record” didn’t start until around 1880 and it’s an accepted scientific fact there were many, many warmer years prior to 1880 that aren’t counted because they were not officially recorded.

The world isn’t ending, the seas aren’t going to flood major coastal cities, and millions of people are not going to die because of human-produced carbon-dioxide emissions. Maybe that’s not the popular thing to say, but it’s morally responsible and necessary in a world filled with rampant climate-obsessed fear-mongering.

This is a great summary, thanks for posting it.

Basically the global "climate change" crowd (key word being: Global) want to suck the wealth of Americans right out of their banks with a con-game. We've already given billions in "Stimulus $$$" to "green" cronies of Obama's and got NOTHING, zip, zilch, nada....except for billions of dollars lost through fraud perpetrated on the American taxpayer.

Now we're going to strangle the economy a whole lot more in this covenant with CHINA?

This is the history of how we got to "scientists" being corrupted to the point of denying science, and how the big lie told over and over and over and over again keeps getting bigger. Goebbles would be proud!

Ted

I quite agree.

A lot of reasonable folks don't agree but again - that's because we could probably find statistics for both sides of the argument in about ten seconds on google. Does everyone make up their statists or is one side or the other always lying? Hard to say!

I tend to think Ivan has it right, small ice age coming. (please come to Georgia!)

cheers

Climate change is a reality but it's not what the alarmists want you to believe. you won't be roasting in an endless summer for the next few years, better stock up on firewood and get a parka.

CO² as a greenhouse gas is laughable. I think scam would be an appropriate word. Several times in distant past CO² has been higher than it is now and ambient temperatures cooler. Keep an eye on the Newsmax TV Channel for Monday at 2PM CST, if I got it right, they'll be showing a documentary called "Dark Winter". Good documentary describing how the sun actually has a greater influence on earth's climate than humans ever will. We're pretty arrogant to think we can actually influence the climate.

What's actually happening is solar activity is moving into a minimum cycle, which happens every 206 years. When solar activity decreases, so do ambient temperatures on earth, it's that simple.

Look up Maunder Minimum. Commonly called a mini ice age, that period was when humans saw some of the harshest winters on record. The Thames was frozen over, people skating on it. Crops failed because winters were too cold for them to grow in their traditional locations.

We'll see the same thing in the very near future, solar activity is already declining, the hottest summer on record was actually about 1997. That year I got 106º and 108º right here in my yard. This year 102º is our hottest day yet. Ditto fro the past 3 years, I think we hit 103º one time. I saw hotter summers in the 90's.

Notice the last 2 winters have been pretty rough? 2013 Atlanta freeways froze over, cars stuck in the ice for miles, stayed that way for days. First time ever. Last winter the northeast got record snowfall in several areas. According to stories I've seen, some of it still hasn't melted in Boston. It's only beginning. Decreased solar activity means colder winters, cooler summers, lower temps overall. A very harsh mini ice age is a very good possibility, better stock up on firewood.

That's not all...history also tells us that during these periods of decreased solar activity, have also been some of the worst volcanic and geologic activity. Volcanoes and earthquakes. Volcanoes produce enormous ash clouds, in some cases capable of blocking out the sun for months or more, spurring more cooling. Yellowstone is a caldera volcano. Commonly considered a mega volcano. Mt St Helens was a popcorn fart compared to what will happen when Yellowstone blows, and it's way overdue. Yellowstone is considered capable of covering 1/3 or more of the US in a layer of ash at least 6 feet deep.

The San Andreas fault is also long overdue for a major earthquake, and it will probably be sufficient to set off Yellowstone when it happens, and that's a good possibility since most of the worst earthquake activity in history has been during solar minimums.

It's not looking good for the home team. Global warming stopped about 2000. The "science" being quoted to "prove" global warming by the alarmist crowd has been doctored. The temperature readings don't mesh with global warming so the scientists being paid by politically connected alarmists groups are simply changing the numbers. I can't find the link, but that was the point of a news article I read a while back. Here are a couple of other good ones...

Global warming is a scam, it's actually cooling...

Climate change advocates have a real common sense dilemma

We were told that the earth was suffering from global warming.

When the earth was "heating up" we were told that driving gas-guzzlers was a problem, coal powered energy plants were a problem. cow farts are a real problem.

So........

Now that the earth is cooling

Why aren't they demanding that we drive more gas-guzzlers, build more coal burning electrical energy plants, and feed the cows burritos?

Doesn't it make sense to do use those things that were blamed for warming the planet to warm it up again when it gets too cold?

What are they trying to do now? Freeze us to death?

Money and power of course.

A lot of big money is behind the "climate change" crowd. Global warming didn't happen so they changed it to climate change, doctored the data and kept telling us the planet is baking. It's not true but it makes money. A few months ago a big climate change summit was held in Sweden. They had to clear out a military base to make room to park 1700 private jets.

That's how much these people really care about so called greenhouse gas. They tell us to car pool or ride a bike, and none of them can either fly commercial or jet pool? Obama went to the smaller climate change meeting in Florida on Air Force One. More "carbon emissions" in one trip than your car can produce in 2 months...about the same time he went to a fund raiser in California. Michelle went to a TV show and landed at the same airport. On separate flights. Not only one hell of a lot of so called greenhouse gases, it cost the taxpayers millions. Vacation in Hawaii, same story. Separate flights.

I think there's a deeper agenda. It's no secret a small group of very powerful people want a world government. Climate change is the major worldwide disaster they want to use to make people all over the place believe the only way out is to let them control the world.

And it's a lie.

Dark Winter airs on Newsmax today (Monday) at 2PM CST. Watch it if you get the chance. John Casey also wrote a book with the same title, I'd love to get a copy but I can barely afford a comic book...Newsmax is channel 349 on Directv, 223 on Dish and 115 on Verizon FIOS, and they have a live stream online, http://www.newsmaxtv.com.

I probably won't be watching, I have to be at jury duty today, if we';re out by then we'll be headed out of town for a short road trip. But I've seen it 3 or 4 times already, it echoes a lot of the info in the links above, and a bit of googling can bring up plenty more reliable info.

Virtually all of the predictions made by the global warming/climate change crowd have fallen through. The polar ice caps Al Gore said would be gone by 2013, nope. New York and Miami would be underwater right now he said. Nope. Some places are seeing a change in water levels, but it's due to erosion and the land sinking, not the water rising. Baytown, right outside Houston, was sinking into Trinity Bay when I lived there in 1978. I think they said 1/4 inch a year. A neighborhood a friend lived in was evacuated and closed down before I moved away, it flooded every year and the houses nearest the bay had water in the yards more than not.

I'm all for conservation and preventing environmental damage, but not because of this lie. I live 100 yards from the best bass lake in Texas, my garden is 100% organic. We never use any poisons whatsoever. if I need to wipe out a wasp nest, I use WD40 and a Bic lighter. It makes a great flamethrower. If I need to deal with ant beds, a constant problem, either laundry soap and water or ammonia and water. Pour it on the ant bed just at dark, cover it with a bucket, they move out. Another bed will spring up, do it again. It takes a year or two but I Had this place completely ant free before I moved out of state, now I'm fighting it again, without poisons that can drain into the lake and kill fish, turtles, frogs...and if I want to I can pick a tomato and eat it right there in the garden. Can't wait till next spring, the asparagus will be ready...

If you believe the climate change hoax, educate yourself. I believed it at one time then I noticed the 106º and 108º summers didn't happen any more like I saw in 1997. About 104º or 105º is about as high as it gets these days, 102ºis much more common. Today is supposed to be 105º in Dallas, not far away. That's not uncommon in this part of Texas. 108º is. Look around and find out the truth, climate change ain't it. Take a look at all of the people promoting it. Who are they? Multi millionaires who only get richer if they convince you it's true. And the manipulation of the data has been proven. Why would they need to change the numbers if it was true? Why are they flying all over the world in private jets if they really believe it themselves? While they tell you to buy a Prius or ride a bike...

Found this after posting, came back to add a link. Good article about the money to be made...

Not for me.

Yes, one side is always lying. That has been proven several times now, and even admitted to by many from the inner circle. Just the fact that they have yet to prove their presumptive theories, (and indeed are continually disproven!) but then arrogantly claim the debate is over, is all we need to know.

It's clearer when you simply follow the money to find that it's about political control beyond national borders.

I think I'll concede the point on this one. Too many of the 'warming' science clowns have been exposed.

Now let's count those sunspots. Oh...where are they?
