Congress Gives Obama Power to Keep You From TRAVELING

This week, the Republican-led House passed a bill, the “Passport Revocation Act,” to give President Barack Obama the power to revoke or deny passports to individuals who his administration suspects may be affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations.
While the bill sounds sensible, in that preventing possible radicals from fleeing into the arms of the Islamic State group makes sense, it gives Obama the right to deprive Americans of their constitutional rights without a jury trial.
The bill allows the government to effectively rob you of your passport if it thinks you are guilty, regardless of whether you are actually guilty.
“This means the secretary of state can, unilaterally, with no due process and no oversight, deprive an American citizen the privileges of citizenship, thus relegating him to internal exile inside the United States — a practice most recently perfected in the Soviet Union,” Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity chief Daniel McAdams explained to reporters.
This should horrify all Americans, especially given that we live under a president who seems content to detain suspects without due process and even kill American citizens overseas by drone strike.
And worse, President Barack Obama seems increasingly to define anyone who disagrees with him as “extremist” or “radical.”
Perhaps the saddest part about this is that our spineless Republican legislators just handed this power to Obama with little debate.
Some, like bill sponsor Rep. Ted Poe, even defended it on the basis that it will allegedly “help law enforcement locate” potential terrorists (H/T The New American).
Actually, all the bill does is degrade the U.S. Constitution and the liberties guaranteed by it. And at the rate Obama is going, with the help of the GOP, the Constitution will eventually wind up being nothing but a page of parchment that reads, “Made in America.”
Americans can be sure that without a serious effort to rein in the attacks on the U.S. Constitution and the liberties it protects, the lawless extremism pouring out of Washington, D.C., will continue to accelerate.
