Thanks to President Barack Obama, Guantanamo Bay prison will now house one less terrorist, as a deal was made to release a former high-ranking member of Al Qaeda into a Saudi rehabilitation program after a nine-year hunger strike.
Not only is the prisoner high-ranking, but his status in the terror world was elevated above most others, due to the fact that he served as a bodyguard to none other than “Geronimo” himself, Osama bin Laden.
Abdul Rahman Shalabi’s case was studied by the Periodic Review Board, who said that Shalabi would be released back to his home country of Saudi Arabia and after a rehabilitation program, be monitored for an unknown length of time.
After appearing before the review board in April, the terrorist’s lawyer explained that the 39-year-old prisoner had been fed with a nasogastric tube daily after he went on a hunger strike in 2005.
He’s been imprisoned at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for 13 years and was among the first group of terrorist prisoners to be transferred there in 2002 (H/T The Blaze).
The Periodic Review Board was created by Obama in 2011 as an effort to begin shutting down the supermax prison designed primarily to hold captured terrorists.
Obama has made a number of controversial releases from the prison, including five high-ranking Taliban commanders in exchange for former Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who the Army has officially charged with desertion.
Recently, six Yemeni detainees were released from Gitmo, three of whom were bin Laden’s bodyguards. They were released while reportedly still labeled as “high risk.”
If ever a case for treason could be made for our commander in chief, it would be now. He’s willingly sending hardened radical Islamic terrorists back into the wild, knowing full well that they will spend the rest of their lives doing whatever it takes to exact revenge on their former infidel captors.
