it is hard work, especially when I have a decent imagination, but not necessarily a "creative" mind.. since I am pretty well set financially to get by with my very simple needs, I thought I will pass on 3 invention ideas for perhaps some of you more industrious minds on BM can inject into your mind and maybe run with.. (I am thinking of Slacker)
1. a device that is hinged on one end, and would probably be best made out of metal casting, which will encase bar soap remnants, into a crevice (think about a fishing sinker mold), and compress said bar soap remnants which have been previously softened, into a rebuilt new "bar of soap" , do you think it would fly?.. don't ya hate throwing away perfectly good bar soap when it gets too thin to use scrubbing/washing your body and face? let me get some feedback on this and I will divulge my next invention idea ..LOL

i think we might be able to partner up, dayne. i've got an idea for an invention that i believe would DOVE tail with your's! ("DOVE"? see what i did???)

for some time now i've been working away in my workshop on my Face Squeegee. don't have all the kinks worked out yet but the idea is a mold is taken of the user's face. (perhaps we can use some of those worn down and discarded shards of old soap?)

the handle is hollowed out w two reservoirs....one holding a Cetaphil like soap, the other containing H20.

two swipes of the Face Squeegee....and poof! you've just washed your fac ein record time!

Sounds similar to the old wooden butter molds used years ago but they didn't have a hinge. It was a rectangular wooden box the size of a pound of butter with a hole in top for a press, which was a simple handle attached to a flat wooden plate. Not much pressure needed, just the weight to hold its shape then press it out when it hardens.

Google images shows loads of designs, the one I always saw as a kid was just a plain rectangular wooden box. Not sure it would work as well for soap...I've collected it before in a small bowl, can be used for washing hands, just keep it on the sink with a little water in it. The soap will eventually soften and turn mostly liquid, not hard at all to use for hand washing.

You boys are heavy thinkers. Before I commit to anything though I usually like to play a little music to focus my mind - tonight I think it will be piano. I love to tickle the Ivories!

Mike just waiting for 3-D printers to get cheap enough to afford one.. modeling polymer clay and some dental tools and picks should get my prototype finished.. when I used to visit www.hirstarts.com quite often, I realized the value of silicon for molds and 3M used to give 5 gallons of it away for free w/ catalyst.. if you could fake being a large manufacturer needing a SAMPLE of 5 gals. of silicone for manufacturing a new mold

Pressure alone won't melt the pieces together, heat is needed (even with a little water added). If you google 'recycle soap pieces' you'll find a ton of how-to videos and pages. My wife made homemade soap one year, with all the molds and scents and colorings, it was more work then it was worth for her. For recycling scraps, its not worth going to that length, you just don't have enough base soap.

thanks Mike, it's something that has always bothered me, throwing away good bar soap, like corking a baseball bat, I have thought about having a core made into bar soap made of a cheap material that would give the soap user a grip when it gets real thin, hell, they have done away with the paper cylinder thing within toilet paper lately to save money and prolly charge the end consumer more money to purchase, even though they are getting less for their money..
also, a second invention idea has to do with the difficulty growing heirloom tomatoes, the difficulty being they always seem to get blight and die when compared to hybrids like Celebrity or Early Girls..
any interest? I will give more details to possibly enrich another BM member, one who is desiring wealth..

How about a way to keep the squirrels and chipmunks away from the tomatoes other than making a fully-enclosed chickenwire cage for the plants?

Mike, it is well documented, that heirloom tomatos( non-hybrids) are very susceptible to blight, which makes them die prematurely, many times before fruit sets, the risk cut drastically of getting blight if you CAN KEEP THE RAIN OFF THE LEAVES.. tunnels/tents are the answer, but say you only have 2 or three plants and a hoop house ins not called for?.. my "tent" involves visqueen, schedule 40, 1"X 1" oak sharpened stakes, and some nylon fishing line..

Needless to say it wasn't well received by shoppers.
