Now I watch TWD on Amazon - don't even have a tv.

I liked The Smothers Brothers Show and Laugh-In because they were true liberal minded shows intended to open the close mindedness of right wingers, then, who only thought about eating pork chops at Christmas time and killing anything alien to their close-minded and abominable way of thinking.. believe in God, but at the same time refuse to give a sandwich to a bum on skid row....

I liked all of the ones mentioned! As a child I enjoyed waking on a Saturday morning and watching all the Looney Tunes cartoons especially the Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote, Silvester and Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn, Tom And Jerry. Saturday mornings were great with a couple bowls of Captain Crunch! (no crunch berries)

Hogan's Heros, F Troop, McHale's Navy, The Monkees

all good ones mentioned above. it was amazing how many "escapist" shows became popular in the 60's. Munsters, Adam's Family, My Favorite Martian, My Mother The Car, I Dream of Jeanie, etc.....

and then there was all the Sci Fi stuff like Star Trek, Lost In Space, etc.....i was pretty young when the 1st Twilight Zone made it's initial run, and then of course watched them later as reruns(same with Outer Limits) ....that show and The Outer Limits had a big part in shaping a lot of my views through their sometimes heavy handed (but still great) way of pointing out our less than generous tendencies and the consequences of (to borrow dayne's metaphor) "not being willing to give a bum a sandwich".

those two shows...and really Star Trek as well.... really tried to put those "lessons" out there....the importance of treating others who might be different fairly, the evils of greed and selfishness, and the benefits of putting differences aside for the greater good of all.

Foghorn was my all time favorite. As I recall - he was based on one Senator Everett Dirkson.

And Dayne - miserable Christian that I am - I will occasionally give a bum a sandwich - but never a buffoon.

My Producer (Wendy Waldman) is the daughter of Fred Steiner, who wrote the music and conducted the orchestras for all of those....and Perry Mason, Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, etc. His father before him, George Steiner, did the silent era in NYC with Betty Boop, Laurel & Hardy. Every night when you watched TV in the 60s/70s you were listening to the music of the Steiner family several times.

I can't remember much from the 60s except being forced to watch Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, The Wild Wild West, Hee Haw, Gilligans Island, and The Dean Martin Show

I do remember loving to watch the Johnny Cash Show. I found a DVD at Starbucks that had a very young Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash jamming with Eric Clapton in Cream days, George Jones singing "White Lightning", Neil Young doing "Needle and the Damage Done", and so many more really cool performances

My late brother in law wrote the theme music for Have Gun Will Travel - used the name Johnny West as I recall.

At his funeral you could dial a number and hear the song.

Awesome!

Fred Steiner also wrote music and conducted the orchestra for a few seasons of that show. He had to be one of the most prolific writers & musicians of all time in America.
