Power Plant Closures What will this do to live music clubs?

So if somebody wants to build a coal-fired plant they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them…”– Barack Obama speaking to San Francisco Chronicle, January 2008
More than 72 gigawatts (GW) of electrical generating capacity have already, or are now set to retire because of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) regulations. The regulations causing these closures include the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (colloquially called MATS, or Utility MACT)[1], proposed Cross State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR)[2], and the proposed regulation of carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants.

To put 72 GW in perspective, that is enough electrical generation capacity to reliably power 44.7 million homes[3]—or every home in every state west of the Mississippi River, excluding Texas.[4] In other words, EPA is shutting down enough generating capacity to power every home in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

Barack Obama told us what he planned to do to us back in 2008. One of his destructive promises was to close down coal-fired power plants and to skyrocket the cost of our electricity. Obama continues these efforts to harm our economic recovery.

Do you think clubs will install pay to play meters on the band stand? Deposit 8 quarters for 1/2 hour or will it be pay by the watt? Will it be like gas stations that used to give free air now charging to fill your tires? Do you think clubs can handle the high power to stay open nights? Do you think it won't make any difference?
All my smaller 100-200 watt amplifiers run on 12VDC or 110VAC, so I can charge batteries by solar power or with a charger when the power is on when we aren't having brown outs and black outs. Those amps run on very little current so I'm safe there. I saved a bunch of 12Volt DC motors from computer power supplies so I can at least have fans when the power is out. You may want to do that. Most computer power supply fans run @ about .200 -.300 Ma. I hooked banks of 4 together for a nice air flow.
Don't think we will be having power outages? We have them now even with those extra power plants that are going to be shut down. You can bet we will have blackouts. And lots of them. Brown outs are dangerous to electronic equipment, so I wonder how that will work out. I bought a generator, but it costs too much for gas to run it for long periods of time, but maybe long enough so my food doesn't spoil. Just how do you prepare for these things anyway? Air conditioning in the summer is a non issue. There won't be any when they ration power, but keeping to refrigerator going is rather critical.
Bars usually do well when things go bad, but who will have the money to drink.when electrical rates go sky high? Oh yeah.. about those electric cars..great idea. Atta way to go obama, well be living the good life. We'll be living just like the folks in North Korea where the whole country goes black every night.
