Happy Independence Day!

March 2, 1836 Texas won it's independence from Mexico. I have always considered myself American first and Texan second. Sadly, in a crazy bastardized way I see it opposite of that now. Never thought the day would come I would see it that way! Some day I'll post a copy of documents from before Texas was a country! Land grant stuff!
I know folks around the U.S. love to hate on Texas but hey, we're use to it! FYI

That's great. My folks met and got married in Amarillo. My grandfather's grandfather homesteaded land that includes parts of Palo Duro Canyon. I consider Texas and Arizona to be the only "great states" as they often say in the congress. The other 48 states are on probation, judged by a case by case basis. Most of the good ones are west of the Mississippi. Congratulations, Texas!

Happy independence day

I would much rather be there jamming there with you in Texas sitting here in Iowa. By the way, there are probably fewer illegals there. The dems buss them in here.
Years ago I had a chance to go to work for Texas Instruments. I didn't think I could handle the humidity so I stayed here.
I did live in California for about 10 years off and on. I missed seasonal changes so I ended up staying here. I know that was the right choice. Nothing but complete whack jobs running California. Torrance and San Diego were nice places to live back then. Not so much these days. I sometimes wonder what would have happened had I moved to Texas.

I like Texas. Could become the last part of America to fall. Sort of like the Alamo.

I might finally get to making my bumper sticker I proposed a decade ago.
TEXAS IS NOT A FOUR LETTER WORD!

Slacker, back in 1980 I did lots of remodeling at T.I. Huge complex they had in Southwest Houston. Honestly there is an estimated 300,000 illegals in H-town alone. The suburban area's are just as populated Pasadena, Deer Park, Laporte, Cypress, Katy, Baytown, Conroe, Pearland, Alvin, Kemah, League City, Seabrook, Galveston, Dickinson to name a few. The suburban area's have another 300,000. White folks here are a minority or will be in the next few years. Not that I have a problem with other folks. Lots of fighters for Texas Independence were Hispanic, they wanted freedoms from the dictatorship of Mexico back then. I referenced the battle of Goliad intentionally not the battle of San Jacinto (the battle that won independence) for obvious reasons.
Glen and Shmed, sadly I see this country spiraling into and below mediocrity which is exactly what liberals and the world want! The part these folks don't understand is, who is going to come to the rescue of the worlds starving, impoverished and communized?

Going to San Antonio, on thursday... I have my bases covered... I want to see the Alamo before I die.
Wife thinks I'm crazy... But I'm not. Be nice to think I'm breathing the same air as Jeff and a bunch of other great Americans. SMILE!

Glen, be sure and check out the Riverwalk. Best damn TexMex on the planet! Also Dick's Last Resort! They treat ya like crap, everyone in there is a Dick LOL! The Alamo is cool, you don't realize how many countries were represented by citizens who so bravely fought and died there. Those fighters knew they didn't have a chance in hell of winning, yet they stayed fought and DIED! They have flags inside representing the countries really amazing. Be sure and read everything it is fascinating, and they have a free short movie at the end!

When I go abroad and people ask what country I'm from, I say, "Texas! We are a nation between the USA and Mexico".

If you're going to San Antonio, may as well get some entertainment too, check and see if Carlsbad Tavern still exists and if they still have an open mic I think on Tues night. Albert Garcia was running it in 1996, great sax player. And if Van Wilks is around, he plays Austin and San Antonio a lot too.
The Guadalupe River was a good place to go tubing years ago but now it's millions of beer cans on the bottom. Sucks, because the water is clear enough you can drop a penny and see if it's heads or tails 10 feet down...San Marcos river is nicer but you have to know how to find it. And it's an hour from San Antonio...
Definitely check out the Riverwalk.
Don't know how many songs have been written about Texas, but this is one of my favorites, love this guy's slide guitar playing

Thanks guys. Unfortunately we just got snowed in again and temps are going back below 5. All flight are cancelled so now it looks like we will have just enough time to fly in, wish my son a happy birthday and fly out. He is shipping out to some AF linguistic school in CA.
But you never know... I may not want to get back on a plane back to hell hole of the northeast.

Somebody get this boy a big bowl of chili with cheese on top and about 3 tabasco peppers, a large milk to chase it with and a couple of warm flour tortillas...sit back and watch...No you don't want beer, it makes the peppers worse...milk only...
Ain't no place like Texas...
Come to think of it, cold spell setting in, should be down around 27° tonight, I'll have some of my almost famous chili on in about an hour, soon as I wake up a little..napped too long...only thing that sucks is I can't get some sourdough rye bread made by then...takes about 5 hours to rise in this weather...tortillas will do quite nicely.
