When It Hits

I do not know what the future will bring and we are all in the same boat when it comes to reading tea leaves, but some experts say, it's not a matter of if, but when, it will hit, as Eleanor Roosevelt said, "the dark days will eventually come", and what I am speaking about is with all the crazy insane and zealous terrorist groups becoming more prevalent in today's world, the "dark days" could happen any minute, could they not.. a life altering catastrophic event has a much better chance of happening compared to 40 years ago.. with so many "rogue states" with a hard on for our great land of America and the West in general, we must get better prepared.. some have decided hoarding food in 5 gallon buckets that have been hermetically sealed is the answer, a good idea, but you will need more than just that.. maybe the most important thing will be to have a good source of drinking water, I don't know, but can suggest to be prepared for "the dark days" should be high on everybody's list.. many have said being prepared will not be worth the effort, since a MadMax type environment will guarantee looting and no fence or barrier will keep the needy out for long, and granted, there will be plenty of needy people when "the dark days" come.. I envision a rainbow gathering type crowd constantly shifting around using what roads are still maintained well enough to seek out rations and shelter till a stronger mad max like group runs them out to scrounge somewhere else, maybe on foot.. i don't know, I don't like the turmoil I am seeing in the Middle East and Africa..

It's not looking good. One beheading already in Oklahoma, more to come is a sure thing, several arrests made in Australia just a few days ago, another one arrested in Oklahoma for threatening a fellow (female) employee, chaos all over Africa and the middle east, Hamas lobbing rockets at Israel, and we're being dragged into another war in Iraq...and still not going about it the way we should if you ask me...

I know most Americans (me included) are tired of being in some war or other for the past 20 years, or more, but the fact is this one is unavoidable, we will have no choice but to send in ground troops eventually, should have already, and it will be brought here. I have little doubt we already have people inside this country biding their time, planning and deciding not if, but when to strike. It's going to get ugly, pretty soon from the way it looks, and I'm already scouting out locations to keep watch undetected. I'm very glad I have a shallow water well, all I have to do is drop a 5 gallon bucket in and I have water. Also have a lake nearby but I don't expect that to last long, I expect one of the first things to go is dams all over the country...right after the power grid...

Your idea of a Mad Max type scenario is not too far fetched, I can easily envision that myself. Really need to stock up on seeds...

Another thing people need to do is learn to dry food. The power grid will be a major target, and your freezer will be useless. Everything in it will be a pile of mush in 4 days or so. I don't have the income to stock up, I'll be in a bind, but I live in a rural area with a garden and know how to fish and hunt, so I might be a little better of than some...but not much...

It's going to get ugly. Real ugly and real soon. And I don't have any faith in our government to protect anyone but their own sorry asses.

the IS is around 30,000 fighters.. that is an estimate.. the borders are so porous in the countries they reside in, it is no problem for them to move around , with affiliates even in Africa and a communications network that is decent or so I have read about,.. the air strikes have also made friends out of common enemies amongst themselves, the IS and Nusra Front had a falling out, now the air strikes have made them friends and allies again.the air strikes are maybe shutting down the black market they use selling oil, because some refineries have been bombed, but if those ISIL people were hateful before, think of the added hate they now have because of the air strikes... it is not much distance to travel by boat from western Africa to Brazil, and then they can infiltrate up to the border just like the Salvadorans and other illegals and such from C. America are doing.. a dozen or so AlQaida/Nusra Front/ISIL commandos could wreak havoc, if they get across the Rio Grande.. there has not been a time that the little voice inside my head has been warning me like never before..

I really don't worry about this at all. Media hype for the most part and I think a major comet strike is more likely. I have a 30 day supply of basic food and water, complete camping supplies including camp stove and gas BBQ in case of any natural disaster and a few layers of home defense if things get weird for a while. I also know how to filter, sanitize and store surface water. Living on fear just seems like a huge waste of energy.

When I was a kid we went through the Cuban Missile Crisis and came to the very real brink of global nuclear war. Today looks pretty calm in comparison. I'll leave you with a song from the 50s for a little perspective:

really.. all we have to fear, is fear itself.. thanks FDR for that quote, I am not the least bit fearful either, but I was trying to point out once again, the U.S. government did not work this out correctly, air strikes w/o ground support? really?.. those cockroaches have scattered all over, and I'll bet they are still communicating battle plans and covert ops like never before.. well at least Obama is "degrading" them somewhat.. but it would have been nice to have herded them into some corral somewhere

oh darn, my Nostradamus-like dream was close, but no cigar, yeah, a boat from Africa to Brazil was not quite right, little voice inside my head, (maybe heart?) it was an airplane and it brought over Ebola virus, reported today well after my post.. it was not terrorists, but probably a plane-load of somewhat infected airborne passengers.. hope they are looking up the flight log so those citizens can be found before the "terror" of ebola virus spreads like a wildfire.. good job..but then Hissler was close enough for a cigar..

Not only the ebola problem, but what about this mysterious virus affecting kids all over the country? I have heard very little about its origin, but have heard some suspicions that it may have been brought here by illegal immigrants this summer. I think that's a very good possibility, and ebola is a scary thought too. They can contain it, and once iddentified, at least in this country a person infected with ebola can be brought out of it.

The problem with this one that got in was inadequate screening before leaving foreign soil. Some of the people being interviewed have suggested banning flights from problem areas in Africa altogether, which might not be a bad idea. With the length of inciubation being 8 days, a person can be exposed to it, show no signs whatsoever, hop on a plane and be here still before showing any signs of infection. That's what happened in this case. If it gets out "into the wild" it can and will be a huge problem, I'm not sure we're capable of handling a major epidemic.

In the countries already seeing epidemics, a couple of problems help spread it. Inadequate hygiene is the number one problem, and their burial customs are helping spread it too. Those countries also have primitive medical facilities if any at all, and the populations are unaware of how to prevent further infections.

If..and it's a big if...we can educate the people here, it's possible an epidemic can be prevented, and hopefully panic can be avoided too. Currently the only means of infection is direct contact with bodily fluids. Sweat, urine, vomit, etc. If it mutates then it's a whole new ball of wax. If this mutates into an airborne variety, then there's no way to avoid a major epidemic once it's already been brought here, and it's only a matter of time until more make their way here.

I'm worried, I'm only about 4 hours from Dallas, it can spread that far in a couple of days. Or less.

Then there's this virus affecting children. One death already if I remember correctly, and a number now experiencing paralysis. It was present in 46 states a couple of days ago, including Texas, affecting children, and the mean age is 10. I can't remember for sure, but I think they said ages 4-14. I may be wrong. Guess I need to do some looking, I heard a suspicion not long ago that it may have come from south of the border but that was not confirmed. It does make sense though. Over 50,000 minors from several countries pour over our border, some strange disease they are immune to comes along with them. We don't have their natural immunity and now it's a big problem.

The same thing has happened before, more than once. When Europeans first came to this country the natives were almost wiped out by diseases Europeans didn't worry much about. Even though they would have problems, their immune systems were prepared for them and the affects were not usually deadly. Not so when Native Americans were exposed. Same thing happened when Pizzaro and Cortez landed in South America. The Europeans had some problems, from diseases they had never been exposed to, but the natives of South America were in real trouble. So this is not a new thing, with Ebola or the virus affecting kids here. And I think there's a good chance government stupidity has a lot to do with both being here.

Here's a news release concerning the Ebola patient, explaining how it happened, and was missed by the hospital on his first visit. That's why this is scary, how many medical staffs across the country are not looking close enough at their patients?

http://www.westernjournalism.com/breaki ... eassuring/

Took some looking but I finally found the other article I was looking for, the only other time I've seen it suggested this was brought here by illegal minors was one comment on the news a few days ago. Nobody is talking about it yet.

http://www.westernjournalism.com/obama- ... -children/

I predicted this in the thread about illegal immigrants in July, and I'm not the only one, I had already seen it predicted in news interviews. We already have TB, H1N1, smallpox, and other problems in the holding centers, and the government is sending them all over the country without telling anybody where they will be sent. This is the result...

I'm really getting sick of this government...

Other things that are not looking good...beheading in Oklahoma, ISIS a mile from Baghdad, nobody in Obama's so called "coalition" doing much more than technical and material support, (they don't trust him, and for good reason), now it's up to 3000+ deaths in Africa from Ebola, China erupting to chaos, economics experts predicting a major crash, nobody knows how many Islamic radicals are here in the US, Obama's air raids are not doing much more than pissing ISIS off...just how much damage does he expect to do bombing empty buildings? Soon as he broadcast his intent to bomb Iraq, they melted into the civilian population same as Hamas in Palestine. Stupid...

It's coming here...correction it's already here. The beheading in Oklahoma is just the first of it.

Billy, while surfing the web today, trying to gather as much information I can on ebola, among other areas of interest, I found somebody on another forum (lunaticoutpost) basically saying the CDC is incorrect in saying ebola can only spread by personal contact with vomit, blood, urine etc. it is a fact somebody showing distress from the disease can spread the virus up to 3 feet by sneezing, coughing , etc. I will be searching more newsgroups tonight to try and pin down an answer.. even talk the nurse who let the ebola patient go might have been an ISIL agent, maybe ISIL and ebola are related somehow?.. if they can't bomb us, maybe they can drop some sick ebola infected people in our lap?..kinda looney sounding..but hey, nothing surprises me anymore..

Ebola spreads really well in 3rd world countries where there is no sewer system, limited clean water, people who are subsistence living in close quarters and don't understand hand washing or basic sanitation, and very limited medical care. In the US it doesn't work very well because we have all of the above. Cholera is another 3rd world epidemic that kills 100k people every year but it is virtually unheard of in the US. So far in 2014 Ebola has killed around 1500. These diseases are tragic and deadly but not much of a serious epidemic threat here. It doesn't stop news agencies from cashing in on the fear factor with "EBOLA WATCH 2014" on every evening news channel.

Ebola is pretty effective at gluing eyes to the tube for advertising revenue though. I suppose it sells a lot of pizza and soft drinks. That might be it's greatest threat... News channel advertising overdose.

thinking back, I thought the name of the movies was "Virus" but googling Dustin Hoffman, since I remebered he had a bit in the movie I came up with "Outbreak" shot in 1995
abbreviated timeline:
deadly fever found in Africa
28 years later virus resurfaces in Zaire
Dustin Hoffman a virologist sent to investigate (in Africa)
white-headed capuchin brought back to U.S.
employee steals the monkey to sell on black market
Jimbo (the monkey thief) gets infected from the monkey
pet store owner who buys monkey becomes infected
turns monkey loose into the woods of California
Jimbo kisses girlfriend infecting her
they establish nobody else in Boston is infected (what a joke)
Rudy the pet shop guy has blood tested
vial of blood spatters on the floor when accidentally dropped
VIRUS MUTATES INTO NEW STRAIN
you getting the picture?

Dayne - Yes, it can be spread by sneezing within the immediate vicinity of other people, that's contact with bodily fluids. But in vapor form. Hopefully they are right, it can only be spread after the incubation period is over and the person is actively infected...

What happened in Dallas is scary though, some schools in Dallas are closed today due to the possibility 5 children he was in contact with (in 4 schools) may be at risk, and the number of people possibly in contact on the trip here is really scary...Africa to England to Dulles in DC to Dallas. Probably around 200 people on 3 planes...no telling how many in airports...

But yeah, I see the possibility of some terrorist group trying to use this as a form of weapon, it wouldn't be too difficult to sneak someone in if they tried. It does make one sit back and think...

Also consider this. A laptop was found not long ago with a bunch of encrypted files, some in Arabic, and biological warfare was one of the topics covered in those files. I'll see if I can dig up a link to the story, I don't remember the details, like where it was found...I think along the Mexican border. But don't quote me on that...scary stuff for sure.

It should be pointed out that 2 days ago, all schools in Dallas County were closed so every kid could go to the State Fair.

If it is more contagious than we are being told, it wouldn't take many infected to spread it widely there....
