Vamp.. this might not be appropriate to ask, and not related to your topic, but some time ago, you posted about strange signs/symbols being spray painted? at the end of your long driveway?..at the time you suggested it might be gangs "marking" your place as a potential target to hit/rob? etc. ? whatever come of that? I would be frightened to live in Mexico without good police protections , and the thought of a gang shaking me down so they don't murder me or my family would be untenable..tnx..

Ta for your Post ... it is all relevant. And yess something did come of that. The scratchings reminded me of "Hobo Signs" from another ERA in the USA. My early yeaqrs were spent living next to a main RailRoad Track.
It turns out that the signs were made by petty thieves marking houses to target and ones not to target. Our neighbours on either side and across the road were robbed.I actually interupted one of these in progress and the thief ran away. Our house has never been robbed in the 11 years we have lived here. The markings are done as follows ... there is an arrow with a circle at the point and in the direction of the targeted house. Ours was marked as such but with a line drawn on the opposite side of the circle from the arrow point. It seems this means do not go there.
Our Mastiffs have a reputation throughout the neighbourhood for savaging people who tresspass ... this reputation is well deserved. Even in the beginning when we had no walls or fences and gates built ... we were safe due to the dogs. Shortly after I noticed the signs there was a grand rash of such breakins in The Port and further inland in the town. These wer put to an end not by the local police but by The Cartel in control. on two occasions beside the road on the outskirts of the town 5 and then 3 bodies were propped up with signs around their necks saying in Spanish "Do not rob"... all the bodies had their hands chopped off. Since that time there have been no more marks that I have seen nor rashes of robberies.
