Nigel ... I thank you for your Post and explanations ... very detailed and precise as they may be. yes, I understand that you were experimenting and that for experimentation i must say it was rather impressive. Especially in light of your constructing one of the instruments ... well done. I myself freely admit that I doubt myself capable of building something that would sound as good as you have ... much less playing it myself.East meets West or West meets East ... a timely subject at present.
I find the host of Middle Eastern instruments which I have seen fascinating ... sound wise and visually. My only experience has been through "Belly Dance". My Dance companie NeoDanze was quite active in Northern California and we had a contingent of such dancers. there are big events there each year where a kind of marketplace is set up in front of a large stage which has nonstop performances for three days or so. Very exotic and colourful stuff. We were asked to perform once in one but never again as i think the "Vampiric" elements were a bit too much for them. But we continued to attend and shop and do PR at them. I recall they were called Riccassa's ... incorrect spelling but the sound is right. I heartily recommend them for any who may live in Northern Ca. and have not checked them out.
All quite complicated stuff. My girlfriend and Fiancee' of eleven years studied dance under SuHaila Samalpour who was the daughter of the woman who is purported to have brought Belly Dance to California. One of our Principal Dancers ... Dara had studied under SuHaila's Mother and was quite good. The group of Musicians who circled such were comprised of all ages and genres ... many were jazz. Some young, others old and a few the real thing. Their rehearsals were more like social events and very rewarding to attend.
Planet Guy ... I thank you for your Post. What you state I am actually mostly aware of. I am not as closed minded as you may think ... just picky about what and who I like. Of course this does not mean that those and what I may not like are lacking in any way. My best Friend here is Armando Noreiga and we have great discussions and of course Jazz is included. I am certain you would find him likeable ... most do not. Take this as a compliment.
Now here is something regarding Sweden ...
http://www.infowars.com/swedens-top-pub ... immigrant/ ... understand that this crap which has come to Sweden is also infecting Europe and contaminating the USA Inc.
And when it does come RUN LIKE A TRAINED COWARD ...
