I turned my musical into book and realized I couldn't just connect blank spots with songs. So I started with a premise: How could the state of Georgia survive a zombie apocalypse and the reset of the country is pretty much gone.
Having finished the first book in the series I've learned a lot and not all of it good. My protagonists include the libertarian governor (I can dream). The problem? How can she remain true to any sort of values when survival is really the only issue that matters.
When everybody has guns. They have to. However, everybody has PTSD as well. Oops...what to do about that eh?
I won't bore you with a lot of the details but ultimately I've come to realize that 'freedom' as we know it, is very precious and very rare. And very hard to keep - regardless if the govt is left, right or whatever...and regardless if that govt's actions are made for reasons good, bad or indifferent. There are certain dynamics at work and they always work against freedom.
I will admit that has depressed me a little but made me a bit calmer too I think.
