the main problem is finding people that want to do my tunes, I think there would be a niche market for them, but can't find people that think they are viable... everybody wants to do the cover song thing, I have done that, but I want the people to hear my tunes with another guitarist at the minimum, and I see us sitting on a busy city street with dozens of people passing by every few minutes, and people throwing money into a tip jar, and smiling, and making positive comments, and having that one special music executive happen to walk by, and say, we are going to sign you to a 1 year contract , or a 1 year contract writing music, like a Tin Pan Alley cat from the 1910's.. that is your job, just to creat chord structures with harmonic embellishment on other instruments/guitars to fatten them out..

jookeyman wrote:If you want to busk, then NOLA would be a good place. A lot of tourist, especially from Oct.-May. Finding a decent place to live would be the hard part. Do you have any type of income already? There are lots of buskers and some even have followers.
where does a guy busk in New Orleans? the French Quarter?..are there swap meets there? reason I ask, is some swap meet places like Quartzsite in Arizona let you live right on your vendor spot, so much a month? do you have swap meets like that in Greater New Orleans? if so, I could trade the beaters off for a low mileage 3/4 ton cargo van, and live in that and peddle on the side, the whole jist of this would be just to see if any of my original tunes turns peoples heads with their brilliance :D , more of a test marketing campaign, I used to busk at the local swap meets I do, but had some expensive sh*t stolen so I quit doing that, I just want to see if the public smiles hearing Orlando Lake #31 and making a comment that is positive about it

reason I brought up Atlanta Underground is because I thought it would be mild down there in the ground even in mid-winter Atlanta climate, but yelp comments are making that place out to be a semi-dangerous area..

no "semi" to it. Buckhead is particularly scarrrrry.

Mandeville is a suburb of Nawlins, where it's not too scary with cheaper housing. There is a smaller version of Bourbon Street where the locals go, a few blocks away from the touristy place where everyone else goes. I forgot what they call it...frenchtown? N.O. has gone way down since Katrina, but it's still a jazz mecca. It used to be the biggest live music center in North America but is now ranked after Toronto and Austin.

Ashville conservative? Where did you get that idea? Musicians are typically politically ignorant everywhere, making them liberals. The best open jam sessions I've seen in America happen there almost every night of the week. This would be my choice.

Austin is a liberal mecca in a conservative state because of Hippy Hollow, a place on lake Travis that was a nude beach in the 70s and still is. Unfortunately, it's the exact same people so you only get to look at walking prunes. It's wide open there....you really can make any kind of original music you want with so many musicians looking for a band. Live music capital of America with so many venues...but there are 800 bands begging to play so don't expect to make a cent. Busking might be supported just because there are so many musicians that "might" be sympathetic, assuming you don't make them laugh.

The home office for my VR film company is San Francisco, because my son lives in Sausalito on a small yacht. His rent (dock fee) is $400 a month, and in the water he won't suffer an earthquake. You could do what he did...buy an old boat and start fixing it up. I love this city in the summer and spend a few weeks there every year, sometimes more.

Doesn't mean you'll make money in ANY of these cities. The competition is stiff but if you can't overcome a little hill like that, you probably have no business in the biz.

San Fran and Detroit are the most influential cities in American rock history. Chicago & New Orleans for blues/jazz. Not sure that any of that matters in the digital age.

:D I wondered how long that would take to get a response...it was faster than I thought it would be!

There is lots of data to prove that people who are more informed about political and social news/events tend to be conservatives. That could also be happening because of the reverse; conservatives spend more time scouring the news.
In my liberal life, I didn't read a newspaper or try to keep up. Was too busy chasing wemon and dope.

Liberals tend to be more partisan than informed. Get their news from comedy shows like SNL, NBC, or the other Comedy Network. They only seem to know what the plantation owners tell them to say.

It is not the same 'underground' where I blew out my left ear... I've heard nothing good about it and haven't bothered to go there.

Saw buskers in Ashville last time I was there, been a while but saw some good blue grass type players. Nobody I thought was really way across the line toward greatness though. Not a huge fan of the scene there. Sort of hippie-esque without being all that cool really.

googled, "busking in New Orleans" last night, and I was surprised how much busking activity takes place there, and surprised to find a hostel that provided cheap rooms to rent buskersbunkhouse.. cool name, I would not mind wintering over in New Orleans, but it is 70 today here in Missouri..

I always get those two confused....yea, Metarie is what I meant

A lot of people who work in 'Nawlins' live in Mandeville and make the long commute to the city to get away from the crime.

Hmmm....maybe I meant Mandeville?

Number three- only tourists call the city 'Nawlins'. The people who live there pronounce it New Awlins.

Sounds the same when they pronounce it.

Dude, I'm half cajun from Vidor TX.

The music you hear and the food you eat in the bigger and more famous venues are geared toward tourist. If you want to hear GREAT music or eat GREAT food you have to know where to go. Those places are usually old converted shotgun houses that are about to fall down they're so dilapidated.

So you know where Frenchtown is?

The whole place was a scary mix of vodoo and debauchery until Katrina. Never had any desire to visit, except for when I play there. It's a cleaner place for the time being....

Hey, what is it with all the turtles crossing the highway going up to Alexandria from there? I've crunched a dozen before.
