WOW.

These guys are sporting go pro cameras and they send in the vids to motorcycle crash channels. Some of them are pretty intense. In one some idiot ran full speed into a car coming from the other direction. That was a sad one because when he hit there was a ball of fire that covered both lanes. At least he didn't feel anything. In 90% of them the crashed rider simply fires off a bunch of expletives, picks up his bike, or what's left of it, and goes on his way. Some are pretty funny, some not but they are entertaining and they inspire me to want to wear leather all the time.

I have seen those videos, not fun to watch but a learning experience.
I have owned several bikes over the years and can say I have at least 300,000 miles on motorcycles in three different countries.
Came close but never crashed one.

I almost died in a motorcycle accident caused by a stupid woman turned around swatting her unruly spawn in the back seat instead of paying attention to her driving.
I was so bad off that the doctor called up my family at 3AM and told then if they wanted to say goodby to me that they had better get there as quickly as they could.
I managed to beat his odds but after almost a year of therapy and my leg not getting any better, past a certain point, I asked the doctor why I was still in therapy. He said it was because he had no idea if my leg movement would improve or not. He said that I was only one of two patients with a leg that badly mangled who didn't lose it. He said that in all his years of practice all the rest lost theirs.
Anyway the almost cause of death was the marrow from all the split bones getting into my blood stream. Generally when that happens you loose circulation to vital organs as the fatty marrow clogs the veins. My system was shutting down but life support and God had other ideas so I survived to my doctors surprise.
He really threw a fit and read me the riot act when I arrived at therapy on a motorcycle with a custom home made crutch rack. I couldn't bend my leg to shift but as long as I sat back in the passenger portion of the seat I could operate the foot-shift with a straight leg. I rode to the Sturgis Rally that year several months later even though I couldn't walk very far. If you fall off a horse get back on if you like to ride. My iron horse would have nagged me to death if it didn't get to go to the rally just because of me.

I've seen a few of those too. My favorites are the epic fail videos. It's amazing some of these people can even remember to breathe...

I had a friend years ago who told me the story of his short lived ownership of a brand new Kawasaki 900. Fastest thing on the road at the time, he left on it, hit the throttle hard, hit second gear and wound it up, looking at the tank thinking "yeah I'm bad", hit third gear just as he rammed it into the back of a Monte Carlo.

He never got on a bike again.

Another guy from the same area, not long after that, decided to see what his bike would do in a stretch of backroad people used to race cars fairly often. He heard about it and rode out there one night, people had marked the road for 1/4 mile, and he floored it. He was doing fine until he got to the end of the 1/4 mile and found out it also featured a curve, you had to nail the brakes hard and get ready for the curve soon as you crossed the end marker...he didn't...when he hit the telephone pole it basically cut him and the bike in half down one side. Half of him was on the ground, the other half smeared all over 6 feet of telephone pole.

Some people ride bikes with something that resembles good sense, some are just plain stupid. And road rash is not fun...the only time I dropped one it was on a small triangular patch of pea gravel turning onto a city street. Front tire hit the gravel, down it went, I lost a patch of skin the size of a saucer off my right thigh. Only doing about 20MPH at most, probably closer to 10. I wasn't paying attention tot he speedometer, I was going slow, I was paying attention to the idiot in a pickup behind me who didn't seem to want to back off so I could slow down even more and make the turn. Yes, I had the blinker on AND made a hand signal. A Honda 350 will win the fight every time...it sure kicked my ass...
