San Francisco Raises Minimum Wage, Liberal Chipotle Learns How the Real World Works

After a number of U.S. cities buckled to liberal activist groups and protests by fast food workers demanding a massive wage increase, many restaurant chains are already feeling the sting — and it’s still early in the process.
The latest word from Chipotle, a popular burrito restaurant that tends to lean left on social issues, released a private report detailing one of the first effects of raising their workers’ minimum wage — price increases.
Though several of their markets saw price increases, San Fransisco saw a staggering 14 percent increase in prices on their beef and barbacoa products. Not only that, but the report accurately blamed the increase on the recent 14 percent hike in mandatory wage increases.
“San Francisco, however, saw across-the-board price increases averaging over 10%, including 10% increases on chicken, carnitas (pork), sofritas (tofu), and vegetarian entrees along with a 14% increase on steak and barbacoa,” a private research firm reported.
“We believe the outsized San Francisco price hike was likely because of increased minimum wages (which rose by 14% from $10.74 per hour to $12.25 on May 1) as well as scheduled minimum wage increases in future years (to $13 next year, $14 in 2017, and $15 in 2018),” it explained.
Well duh.
What do liberals expect to happen when the next wage increase takes effect? It’s truly frightening that we have such a large number of people in this country who simply can’t grasp the basic economic concepts behind the pitfalls of government-mandated wage increases.
The increases aren’t going to suddenly make fast food workers wealthy or stimulate local economies. The increases are already having the opposite effect — it’s placing those entry level jobs at risk, as companies look to automate the entry-level tasks that these unskilled workers were hired for in the first place.
Not to mention the fact that as prices increase, consumers are less likely to spend their money. Nobody is going to pay $10 for a double cheeseburger. At the current rate of increase, that number probably isn’t too far in our future.
As Young Conservatives pointed out, liberals, somewhere along the way, fastened onto the false idea that small business owners are made of money. They think they’re purposely paying low wages in order to horde the constant flow of mega profits.
As any small business owner in this country will tell you without shame, that is extremely far from the truth. Many of these folks work 70 or more hours per week just to pay their staff, keep the lights on and put food on their own tables.
