Good afternoon,
The Run for Water society is looking for individuals and groups to volunteer their time and talents on our 5k, 10k and half-marathon routes on May 31st of this year. With help from people like you we put on a fantastic community event, but as you know we are not just a run. Last year our community’s efforts contributed to a successful event, raising over $250,000 for clean water projects culminating in over $1 million raised for charity.
The project this year is to change the lives of 18,000 people in Ethiopia by laying 19 km of piping, 3 spring caps, and 46 water points. We will empower 800 girls to go to school and 30 women to start micro-businesses. Right now just 4% of villagers in Yella, Ethiopia have access to clean water and they often have to walk 8 hours just to get it.
Please let me know if you would enjoy being part of this life-changing event. The commitment entails a 2 hour window of performing (with as many breaks as you like) on 3 different routes - the 5k, 10k and half-marathon route. The races are staggered and the starting times have not been announced yet - but the Mill Lake location entertains those people running/walking the 5k and it usually begins at 9:00. You would see runners from about 9:15 until 10:45 and possibly later. If you are on the 10k or half marathon routes, the half-marathoners usually start at 8:00 and 10k runners start at 8:30.
We are looking for singers, dancers, musicians, bands, choirs, cheerleaders and encouragers! This is not stage performing but street-side performing. Let me know what you think!
Thank-you,
Suzanne Letkemann
