This might be a bit of a 'sales' post, but it's an opportunity to learn!

Get Rambunctious is a workshop for music education lead by Toronto trumpeter and band leader Michael Louis Johnson. Spontaneous group composition is a fresh way to look at the art of Jamming.

In this workshop you will learn the art of spontaneous group composition. Working with tradition forms, 12-bar and 8-bar blues, and more, in all keys, you will learn to communicate using numbers, develop the ability to arrange on the spot, improvise with structure and purpose, all while playing fun party music in a group setting.

Learn how to listen, compose bass lines, rhythm parts, harmonies and melodies, all while serving an infectious dance party groove.

Johnson is a trumpeter and band leader with 25 years of professional experience, touring North America and Europe as a member of Juno nominated Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Rambunctious, Red Rhythm and Big Rude Jake among others.

The program is open to musicians of any skill level, whether you are a young student still in school, or a mature music lover who hasn't played in years. If you can play a scale - you can Get Rambunctious.

Perhaps you are a parent who used to play, now your children are learning in school. Here is a great opportunity to come to a weekly session and play together. Get your chops back while enjoying playing in a group, (rather than hidden away, alone in your basement).

The workshop is primarily designed for horns of all types, but is open to any other acoustic instruments as well.

It is pay what you can, so don't worry if you don't have money. It's all about getting together to play and enjoy.

Get Rambunctious workshops are held every Monday evening at the Small World Music Centre at Artscape Youngplace on Shaw Street in Toronto.
