Musician from Romania

Hello, my name is Adrian Ursu ; I am a guitarist/composer from Bucharest, Romania and I made this topic because I need some advice.
It's very difficult to survive in Bucharest as a musician especially if you want to play rock. Only pop/dance/electronic genres are promoted in mainstream, the underground area is very rudimentary and there's no chance for a band to grow. Most of musicians prefer covers bands and don't have the time/perseverance for creativity.
My question is : what could happen if someone like me comes to England (maybe London) to find musicians and play music ? I mean...it will be easier for me to find my place there ? In other words I want to understand how is to be a musician in England.
I'm 100% dedicated to music, I don't have a day job but I feel that I'm wasting my time and I really want to find other musicians like me.

For a review you could listen my two songs from my profile : http://www.bandmix.co.uk/adrianursu/
This is my music that I want to play in England. I'm planning to finish 8-10 similar tracks.

And this is me : http://www.youtube.com/MrAdrianursu

Thank you very much for your time.
And excuse my English :)
Have a nice day !

Adrian.

Adrian, you have a brighter future in England I think.
As an artist, one should never rule out other forms of music... As an entertainer, the first rule is to give an audience what it wants.

As far as industry: The dance/Pop/electronic genres are in demand. If you want to be cutting edge, think Dub-step technology and minimalism philosphy (of art). You can make a lot of money...and with your current skills, its probably like a walk in the park

What ever you decide, good luck on your journey.

:)

It's not easy to make living as a musician anywhere. It used to be that in the UK, you had join the Musicians Union before you could play in public, not sure if that is still true.

Its all to do with that little bit of luck... There is a lot of garbage that gets the breaks while some truly gifted musicians just seemed destined to fail.
Having lived and played in London i can tell you I've seen many a musician slowly become dis-heartened with the whole business including myself.
I don't understand the celebrity driven scene that now exists i just keep plodding on doing my own thing.
Honestly you'd be horrified if you heard the majority of these so called musicians play live in your local pub, its all in the production..
But good luck to ya!

Dude, you're great!

You could make it from anywhere in the world with songs like that. Why not put the band together in Bucharest and then get out of town?

If you can't do that, then going to England has worked for a lot of people because they appreciate original music, yea they DEMAND it, in the U.K. but be warned it is SOOOOO expensive to live in England that most of their rock stars moved to America a long time ago. My guess is that Bucharest would be a good "home base" to launch from.

I've got a lot of contacts around Europe and could tour there for 6 months without repeats, (which is just too long away from the family) but when I was thinking about it, the plan was to get a flat in Timisoara because it's cheap to live in Romania compared to other European countries and you're able to drive/fly to east, west, and southern europe cheaper than living there. A flight to Budapest from Timisoara was only $45 when I checked a couple of years ago.

Switzerland is the best place in the world to sell CDs. Converting Swiss Franks to dollars, I get about $35 per CD there.

So honestly, it doesn't matter where you come from as long as you're going out. Maybe go spend a summer in London making contacts and see what happens?
