What makes for the best promotional images?

Hi guys

I have recently set up a photography studio in the North east which provides promotional images for bands and musicians.

What I’m looking to find is what people think really makes a cracking set of photo's.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Fire away!

Try hitting up the Soho crowd... Right now the art trends for [pastorals) have been leaning toward minimalist methods... Don't know if that translates well into photography, but its worth a look... Then there is also computer enhancement...i.e Photo shop., etc. Then of course there are the standards... If you do bands, try to bring life into the faces. Unfortunately, many entertainers lack the photogenic touch... and/or they always try to pose off as some sort of bad asses... Its very dishonest from an artistic stand point... You have to conjure them to relax... Too many photos today are telling really banal stories.
Just my opinion
