Hi,

What does everyone do about insuring their musical instrument? I know a few friends who insist on insuring their instrument and others who wouldn't dream of bothering.

What do you do about musical instrument insurance? I wrote a few words about instrument insurance for the Last Minute Musicians blog, but I'm keen to understand the topic on a wider scale.

I'd be gutted if my instrument was lost, stolen or damaged but, as foolish as it is, I still haven't insured it.

Thanks![/url]

If your band/music is run as a business, then you would do wellto get riders on your gear - won't be cheap.
If you are not doing it as a business then you can get riders on yoru home insurance, but valuation is always an issue. There are some companies that specialize n musical instrument insurance and understand that older instruments are not devalued (like most business equipment).

I've heard good things about Allianz Insurance, although obviously the Musicians Union also do instrument insurance - along with lots of other useful things for musicians.

Does anyone belong to the MU?

Sorry . . .
After having worked under a union for >10 years.
Being bypassed for promotions by total idiots whom just happened to have 'seniority', and being sold out and laid off.

Union is a vulgarity in my opinion.

And I'm sure HELL will have a fine one, indeed.

Sorry to hear that you've had a bad time with your union.

Here in the UK i've heard mostly good things about our union. Nothing's ever perfect though
