Ok, Writer, now it's there. It wasn't when I first went there. Could have been a computer glitch. I'll check it out now. :)

Listened to Defying the Odds. It's actually pretty cool. Kind of like atonal jazz. This was MUCH more interesting to me than the canned stuff you've been posting.

Yeah, the way you throw those random slightly off-tempo chords in there does give it kind of a jazzy feel. Must say, I liked Royal Speedway better though. I'm not much of a jazz guy. :wink:

OWooowowowowowww

royal speedway? DOH!

Writer are you familiar with 1-4-5?

Usually your first note will provide you with the TONIC or 1 chord. The tonic is usually your key.

if A is your first note
ex. a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, e=5, f=6, g=7 and last step or a=8, the octave.

if b is your first note or root. ETC.
ex. b=1, c=2, d=3, e=4, f=5, g=6, a=7 and octave b=8.

Then you want to consider how many bar progression you are playing in. 8 bar/12 bar/16 bar and there's a standard progression and time for each of those using a base of 1-4-5. You might find some other changes, but that is the meat and potatoes of it. Get ready for the 7.. LOL

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16_bar_blues

tonic = the 1 chord
subdominant = 4 chord
dominant = the 5 chord

Once you know this structure, you can fill during most blues tunes. AS you know blues is part of most music, it gives you insight as to what is played next and where depending.

The music/rhythm/fill part of what you played on Defying the Odds is most definitely 1-4-5 based.

Now if you intended to play jazz, fusion etc. just ignore this.

If not, memorize the patterns of the 8, 12 and 16 bar and practice playing them in whatever keys you like. Augment at will and then post something revised, unless you actually like jazz. (tastes like grapefruit soda with no sugar) lol

I like my music, like I like my women, BLUE and preferably not from this solar system.... LOL

Thanks Everybody

Wasn't on my profile at the time ratsass, caught me in the 5 minute wingspan from beginning to post to end of post:), and what is atonal fisaherman bob, is it kind of like a nasua sound, and finally Capt Scott. I am going to Messiah College now. The stuff you speak is heavy. I am a sight person. I took a class on line last semester, but dropped it, because I looked at the material to learn online, and I was lost like Moses in the desert. Biu I will try some of what you suggested. In creating my music I combine music along with what I learned in a radio class about editing. That's why you hear the akward key changes. I got rid of the real radical ones(corny sounding) , and left in the ones that were noticable, but still didn't change the general theme of the song. (still sounded cool)

Out of me you will hear jazz, rock and roll, soul, and even country, and classical. It's whatever comes out of the keyboards is what one gets. I really don't plan it, and I can't explain it. The only thing I know is that it starts from the title. I play a little bit by ear, and a little bit by sight, and whole lot by osmosis.

A whole" A Lot By Osmosis" Sounds like a blues song to me Fisherman Bob.

A Little Bit of Osmosis

Humor me Cpt Scott.. Taking the principles that you have just laid out, I will apply them to the title that I have just said. "A Little Bit Of Osmosis. I will do the same to the best of my abilty. Post your make to your profile, and I will post my make. You will correct mine, and make suggestions, and I will study and digest yours. What do you think?

Bad Title

Wha happened?

I'll answer any question(s) I have enough knowledge to answer.. If not I, then I am sure someone else knows MORE by far. We're here to help..

I don't know much theory, only about 3 years worth. ( a drop in the bucket )

I do however have this part almost memorized with some slight changes to facilitate a bridge .. and I always try to build up, not destroy.

It's easy to tear down, but difficult to build. Do not quit before you start.
And anything worth anything is always work.

Start simply and ask away, there is no such thing as a stupid question.

Unless ask Jefro Bodine:)

Little popcorn story Cpt Scott. When I was in the hospital for my head- injury, 1n 989, the doctors suggested I play the keyboards again to bring my memory back. It was suppose to be therepeutic. Anyway I convinced my doctors to prescribe for me to take jazz lessons. The CAT fund paid for it. (The Catatrosphic Accident Fund) Car Insurance.
When I was in the hospitle, I use to drive the nurses crazy. I wasn't good, and took glee in their displeasure.
Anyway there was there cute psychologist there. Cute, but acted like she was God's gift to mankind. One day I saw her walking down the corridors of the hospital. I started playing the keyboards like Jerry Lee Lewis! I embarrassed her so. I don't know much theory either, but I do know this, ...stuckup psychologists sometimes need a crazy man to jam up thier.... inkspots.
