Just Don't get it

I'm in the process of forming a new band, we have all the musicians, experienced players that when someone say's they want to hear X , the guys all just jump in and play X even if it's the first time they played it or even heard it.
We're looking for a vocalist and I've sent messages to a number of people in our area on this website, they just don't respond or reply. What's the f'in point of posting on a website that you're looking to join a band, and then not responding when someone contacts you. Are they dreamers and wannabees that don't have the chops or just ignorant?.

Difficult one that......

I think you should give people more time. Things have changed radically and a lot of people who used to just jump in are a bit wary now due to finances, at least this is how I see it.

In any case this is your first post so as above, let things ride for a while because anything that is cooked longer just tastes so much better.

Best of luck in finding one.

Chippy.

As someone new to the forum I'm sorry to inconvenience you with a question you've heard before. It must be very tiring and stressful for you.

Thanks for your replies and sage advice.
Unfortunately I don't have time for people who don't have the manners to respond, especially when they have posted an intention to get into a band.
I've never had the patience for people who don't follow through. A weakness of mine I'm afraid.
I just find it confusing and wonder why people waste others time and effort. Why would you post you're looking for a position in a band if you're not.
All of us have so much time on our hands these days that searching for people, contacting them for no reason at other than the incredible urge to send them e mails , is something we all just love to do.
I realize I'm ranting to the people who would have returned answers to my emails so please forgive me.

It's really a problem that dates back before the internet. Some guy pretty much learns three chords and decides he wants to be a rock star. He thinks that if he gets together with a few guys, just like him, that within weeks, record labels will be banging down their door.

So he starts posting ads, and when people respond, especially ones who actually can play their instruments and stuff, well.. the guy thinks you are doing it the hard way, or something. So he just ignores you, slightly embarrassed that he's not at your level of skill, but thick-headed enough to really believe that you are going nowhere, and his grand plan (of sitting on his couch with 3 other guys talking about how great the drugs and chicks will be) is the only way...

So, he continues his search for guys ...just..like...him because they know the magic formula.

Forget that no major label has signed a rock band in over 5 years. Forget that practice is required, and forget that the guy needs to actually know a song or two the whole way through.. and you can almost see the brilliance in his logic.

Fast forward 20 years and the same guy is washing cars for a living, pissed off that other musicians "held him back"

with the internet... it doesn't even take much time or effort, people (posers) can post all day about wanting to be in a band, but when you actually try to schedule something as useless (sarcasm) and boring as an "audition", you have clearly stated to them that you are beneath them.

Anyways.. lol

Never bother contacting anyone who doesn't have samples on their profile, or myspace, or something, to show that they at least know how to play an instrument.

And even once you get past that hurdle, you have to then deal with the people who DO know how to play, but are just irresponsible flakes.

But keep at it, and never give up, and you always end up finding a good match/band.

Look at it like dating.. you rarely, if ever, find the right person on the first relationship.

WOW! Wish you were in my neck of the woods ... I'd be all over your posting. I'd love to be the vocalist in a blues/jazz band. [sigh] Oh well.

Good luck!

CD...so near yet so far....come on you're only 5 hours away. I wish you lived you here too.
The frustration on my part comes from the fact the music gods, karma, dumb luck, call it what you will has thrown together 5 people who are accomplished on guitars ,electric and acoustic, bass, drums, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, balika, dobro(square neck),national slide, flute, lowD whistle and harmonica. The potential for all kinds of genres of musics is there, these guys can write, cover most anything, sick sense of humours, are open minded and there's no ego maniac. I mean how often does this happen.
All we needs a bloody vocalist and can we find one, can we hell as like..
Oh well...patience grasshopper.
We're having fun jamming and getting a song list together but it's hard without someone throat warbling.....Still somthing, someone will turn up or to steal the name of the 80's cult movie. "The Gods must be crazy"
I appreciate your support and sympathy, may the grooves in your fingers get ever deeper.

Try your local Craigslist, try local music stores most have a want ad section for musicians. Tell people you meet in music stores that your looking for someone. If you have places you want to play as in bands playing your typr of music, get to know all the bands in your area playing music like yourself, get to know these other bands, if one of them is busting up and has a decent singer it might work that way.

Putting an add here and expecting something to really happen is a pipe dream. As Kramer states if you want to play music you have to get out there where real people are really playing music. Not sitting behind a computor screen waiting.

Just get out there and make something happen. Just do it!
